winchester summer scorcher
i raced 100 free and 100 back on saturday and i got a 2 second pb on 100 free (1:04) and i was on pb for my 100 back (1:14) but i was pretty disappointed in my 100 back since the pb is old and i’ve done 1:11 short course in the past without really trying. on sunday i had 200 back, 50 free, and 200 free. i was supposed to race the 400 free in the morning but my mom pulled me out before i woke up because i had a really bad nights sleep and physically i just wouldn’t be ready to race; i slept an hour here and there and then eventually managed to sleep from 5 to 10 in the morning. i added 4 seconds on the 200 back and went 2:39 but i guess a small win was that usually when i have a bad race, it sticks with me, but i moved on pretty easily and also somehow got gold. for reference, my pb is 2:32 short course from november and 2:35 long course, but both are old and i was really hoping for a pb. anyways, i wanted a 28 on the 50 free but i was getting really sleepy and i did manage to shave a few milliseconds off but i was basically just on pb: 29. finally, i raced the 200 free and dropped a second. this was my first time going sub- 2:20 long course (2:19) and im really hoping for 2:15 or even 2:14 short course next season. i was really happy with this time though, especially given that i haven’t been happy with this race since october. i did find out this morning that my friend who is my age, 14, went faster on her 200 fly than i did on my freestyle this weekend (she went a freaking 2:18 what the heck) at nationals, but i don’t think i should let it get to me since im overall just happy for her anyways. side note, im so happy spain won the world cup!! im half spanish and i did manage to get home before second half. i had a lot of fun this weekend and im looking forward to next season!

🌡️ Summer temperature...
Guys summer is getting pretty hot now. Quick reminder to drink loads of water first thing in the morning, throughout the day, during training, after training (recovery shake 3:1 ratio), and before going to bed. How you doing with hydration this week? Comment below from 1 (you suck at it) to 10 (you drink water like an Olympian). Go! 👇

uhh maybe a 4 or 5 🥀 i think i drink like 1.5-2 liters per but im not sure if like height/weight determines what’s healthy for me, and idk how much i should as an individual
1500 time trial (sorry this post is so long haha)
it's the second time I've ever done the 1500 (I do it like once a year, first time was last June). last time I did it, I didn't double cap since I used to just put my goggles under my cap and call it a day. that was the first and last time my cap fell off lol, I always double cap now, and I think it happened when I had a good 500 left or so - this time I double capped. I could feel BOTH of my caps sliding up my forehead though and I kept pulling it down on every other turn since it was short course and obviously its a time trial anyways, and on my push and glides in my streamlines, I would put pressure on my head to pull down the cap if that makes sense. anyway, I dropped 42 seconds from last year (I went 18:59.91 and my coach wanted me to go sub-19:00) but I really really want to race it again since if I can go sub 19 with technical issues like that, I can definitely drop a good 10 seconds since it messed up so many of my turns, especially since it was short course. I'm also not really "worn out" of racing it, which I get with my 400im, for instance. like I'm genuinely excited to race it again since I'm optimistic for it, but its hard to find meets with the 1500 available. overall I'm pretty happy though, since my technique has felt pretty off for quite a while, since January or so, and finally I'm starting to feel my freestyle technique fall back into place, how it was before when I was consistently pbing. anyways, big pb today but I know I can do better, but it also just makes me hopeful for upcoming competitions.

🥄🥫 CREATINE... Yes or no?
What's your experience with it? Comment below 👇 At the University of Virginia we all took it and I loved it because I seemed to recover better. That was coming from the performance nutritionist of Team USA (all the Superstars basically). Creatine is the most researched supplement so I could put together a guide for parents and swimmers if you want. Let's first discuss: Who's tried it? What happened? Who's against it? Why? 🚨 VOTE: A Swimpros Guide for parents and athletes on when and how to use Creatine?

how do i tell a bad race from being caused by something physical or something mental? i haven't gotten significant pbs in my important races and i can't tell if it's from a lack of technique or if it's just my thinking process beforehand.

screw your feelings and prioritize how the race went over the time
