The Biggest Cyber Security Myth: “I’m Not a Target”
One of the most common things people say about cyber security is: “Why would anyone target me?” The reality is… most cyber attacks aren’t targeted at all. They’re automated. Attackers run large-scale campaigns that: - Send thousands of phishing emails - Test millions of stolen passwords - Scan the internet for vulnerable devices They’re not looking for you specifically. They’re looking for someone who is easy to compromise. And when they find one, they move quickly. Your accounts can be used for: - Financial fraud - Identity theft - Sending scams to your contacts - Accessing other services linked to your email This is why cyber security is about removing easy opportunities. If an attacker tries 1,000 accounts and: - 950 have strong passwords and MFA - 50 don’t Which ones do you think they’ll compromise? Not the well-protected ones. The goal of good cyber security isn’t to be perfect. It’s to make yourself a harder target than the next person.

🔐 Most People Don’t Get “Hacked” — They Get Rushed
Here’s something you won’t hear enough: Cyber attacks rarely succeed because someone is stupid. They succeed because someone is busy. Busy at work. Busy with kids. Busy replying quickly. Attackers know this. They create urgency: - “Your account will be locked.” - “Immediate action required.” - “Suspicious login detected.” - “Final reminder.” The goal isn’t to outsmart you technically. It’s to interrupt your normal thinking pattern. When you’re rushed, you: - Click faster - Read less carefully - Skip verification - Trust what looks familiar And that’s all an attacker needs. Here’s a simple rule: If a message creates pressure, pause. Pressure is the biggest red flag in cyber security. Not bad spelling. Not weird formatting. Pressure. Give yourself 30 seconds before acting. Open a new tab. Go directly to the official website. Verify before responding. That tiny habit alone reduces your risk massively. Question for you: What’s the most convincing scam or suspicious message you’ve ever received? Let’s learn from each other.

Think Before You Click
🔎 Quick Tip: Even trusted websites can be unsafe — always check before you click. Just because a website looks familiar doesn’t mean it’s safe. Cyber criminals regularly create fake versions of trusted brands — banks, delivery companies, streaming services, even government sites. Sometimes the design is identical. The only difference? A tiny change in the web address. For example: - amaz0n.co.uk (with a zero instead of an “o”) - paypa1.com (with a number “1” instead of an “l”) They rely on you not noticing. Before entering any password, payment details, or personal information: ✅ Check the full website address (not just the logo). ✅ Look for spelling errors in the URL. ✅ Don’t click links from emails — go directly to the official site instead. ✅ If something feels rushed or urgent, slow down. That’s often the red flag. One small check can stop a big problem. Stay sharp.
