DRILL: How to control for better consistency in your shot aim 🎯
The golf swing can be as complex and complicated as you want to make it. I'm not a fan of complicating this game any more than it naturally is. So when I look for drills or ways to train, my aim is always to go with "What is the SIMPLEST way to fix this issue?" This is a drill that will: ✅ Help narrow down your overall miss ✅ Help with aligning to your intended target consistently ✅ Help with moving your body repeatedly in a groove that makes your start line closer to where you want it ❌ Will NOT fix or solve a slice/fade/hook/draw Why is that last one important? Because this drill works on your swing PATH (where the clubhead travels as a whole) and is the thing that makes your ball START in a specific direction; Side Spin (fade/slice or draw/hook) happens NOT due to the club path but due to the angle the club face is at impact (and this is relative to the swing path). (Explainer images attached from Jon Sherman's "Four Foundations of Golf") Fixing path first, in my opinion, is the BIG game improver. The reason: Whether you hit a fade, a draw, a slice or a hook, if you did it consistently, and you can control your start line (exactly what this drill helps with), then you can hit whatever your natural shot shape is and still land your ball where you want it to land. Hit a 10 yard fade? Fine, just aim 10 yards left of where you want your ball to end up. But if you can't control your start line, then good luck having any consistency with or without a natural/consistent shot shape😬 Test this out, let me know how it goes for you and as always, grab a video clip or two if you'd like a bit of corrective guidance so you can improve faster with less headaches 👍 . P.S. Yes, I broke the alignment stick (Also pictured) 😂 I hit it 3 times in this session, and the 2 iron at ~170mph ball speed is what snapped it

I need this for my next range session. Going to give it a try soon.
What’s your opinion (oil can finish)?
I seriously love these 🤩 Do you like the oil can finish? What’s your favorite looking iron/wedge finish? Anyone here have this finish on your clubs? 🤔

@Anthony Thomas you can both etched but I would do the back of the irons. I would likely do a nature theme on them or Star Wars 😉

@Anthony Thomas facts
Funniest moment you've seen in golf (Video or Real Life)
I'm sitting here thinking about when my brother @Billy Thomas and I were blessed with the hilarious fortune of watching a golf ball fly off the clubface of a driver, sail through the open blue sky air, and make direct impact with a deep *THERMP* sound as our brother @Ryan Thomas unexpectedly received it straight to the gut (uninjured thankfully). Got me thinking... 🤔 What is one of the funny moments you've experienced in golf?

A funny moment that stand out in my time golfing is playing on a course after some solid rain. The course so soggy and the bunkers were muddy. My brother landed in a bunker and I decided to play where he was. We both attempted the muddy bunker shot once when we realized it was a bad idea. Mud splashed everywhere and I was wearing a light shirt. I was playing the rest of the course looking like I had poop flung at me 😂

@Craig Heath unfortunately, it was a light grey.

What if playing more golf also meant building deeper connections with the people? The ones in your network that you really like, admire, and have "wanted" to spend more time with but life has just been too busy to make it happen? I have had so many times in my life when I run into someone or they cross my mind and instantly I'm met with two feelings: Joy and Guilt. Joy because they are such a wonderful person that I truly admire and want to spend more time with, so this is a little dopamine or maybe even a serotonin hit. Guilt because I just haven't made it a priority to connect with them. 😬 Golf is such an incredible game and inherently a stage prime for building deep bonds with playing partners. But most people don't make that happen. Most of the 24 years playing this game, I know I didn't. Just hit the shot, toss in a compliment or joke, then repeat for 4 hours. Shake hands and thanks for playing. I want to challenge the How You Golf members here; all of us. The next round we play, whether your focus is on playing well and shooting a career round like @Billy Thomas recently did (fun video recap with Billy on that round here); OR You're just out to enjoy some exercise. Let's make it a priority to get curious about our playing partner: - What are your other hobbies? - What's the focus for you in this chapter of life? - What question are you working to answer in your life right now? We ALL have our own answers to questions like these. Which means we all have challenges we are taking on. Like new recruits going through basic training, what builds strong bonds is SHARED struggle. Our very own Army ret. @Craig Heath and other vets in this group can speak to this specific experience far better than myself, but we've all had something like this in life. Let's make our next round out there, one where we let our playing partners know we are curious and supportive of them.

Love this, challenge accepted. I recently saw some of my buddies, who I haven’t kicked it in a while with, post about going to play golf. Good opportunity to reconnect.
Have you ever... (Master's Day 1)
Have you ever played a course with conditions setup that it actually might be a BETTER play to MISS the green than the hit the green? 😳

I’m usually short of the green on most occasions. The Texas wedge is really my go to shot 😂

@Anthony Thomas I know, I have been better at my club selection. No more, “use the same club as my brother” 😆
