Hi Ciara! Like you said, part of it is personal preference. If you feel like it helps you with your relationship with God, in how you communicate with God, if it helps you communicate something to God, and for whatever reason you may have, then you have the option to do so. I've had two friends, both Maronites, talk for an hour about kneeling during mass. Maronites keep themselves upright and it symbolizes the ressurection and eternal life whereas we, Roman Catholics, kneel to humble ourselves, to show reverence and adoration. Neither is wrong. It came down to tradition. Similarly, you could think to yourself "what does this head covering mean?" or maybe even "what does this head covering mean TO ME?"
