Hey, everyone! I just started a new role with a construction accounting firm. I’m stoked about this opportunity, but while I’m learning, it may take my time away from here a bit more these next few weeks. However, once the dust settles, I’ll announce the direction of what we will be tackling next in this community. Hint: it’s regarding getting clients 😉

The three financial statements each tell a different story. Which one has been the hardest for you to understand?

I acquired my firm on 1/6/26. It came with 650-700k of revenue so I had a running start. But day 1 I lost a $3k client and gained a $3k client. Since I started I've lost 4-5 clients and gained 5-6. It's been truly frustrating because the first 90 days I didn't gain a single client. I gained between 4/1-6/1. Then since 6/1 I had zero success pitching clients on discovery calls. 5-7 failed pitches. "Too expensive" or "my CPA will do it" or "i'll have my wife do it". But yesterday I got 2 verbal commits on a discovery call and 1 signed the contract yesterday evening. But the one who signed emailed me this morning wanting to talk about our contract after talking to his CPA wife. I am preparing myself for him to back out. Moral of the story is to keep grinding. Practice your pitch. Discover what works. Stay in a niche to start to show your expertise. My expertise is trust accounting/IOLTA since 40% of my clients are law firms and most bookkeepers don't have experience there. *I have 5-6 in the pipeline for the rest of the year due to people acquiring businesses. I have been building relationships so an update will come later*

Hey, everyone. Tools of the Trade is coming along and will publish soon. However, before phase 2 of this community starts, I want to know where everyone stands on progressing through the courses. This will help me tailor the most applicable content to where you’re at moving forward. Announcing the next two courses!!! You all spoke and said you would like an Excel course separate from the Tools of the Trade course. So, there will be two more courses coming up on the horizon. Here’s the expected publishing dates: 1) Fundamentals of Excel: Friday, June 19th 2) Tools of the Trade: Friday, July 3rd BEFORE you start these courses, go complete the others and the practice sets!!! I can’t stress that enough. The Excel course can work as a stand alone course. But the Tools of the Trade will likely make much more sense in light of the other courses. After these, I have some other BIG things planned 🙌 Stay tuned.
