What are your hardest chords to play in standard tuning?
https://gtrlib.com/chords/F6sus4 I'll go first. I was trying to learn how to play black hole sun without drop D tuning. And it was going pretty good until the the chorus started. This is literally the first chord and I don't think a single variation is easy. Even the ones that look easy at first are a pain. The last one is the easiest but its also the worst of the bunch.

@Clemens Hackmack They're super popular in all my favorite music. Pink Floyd uses them a lot. A lot of gilmour solos are Pentatonics with an added 9. Radiohead uses them a lot, I think the first time I ever played a mAdd9 was when I tried learning sail to the moon. Queens of the stone age use them. And they are huge in flamenco chord progressions as well. They pair well with Phrygian modes (though obviously not for the root chord)

@Christian Lie Never used them before. They intrigue me, but I doubt they'd suit me much to be honest.
Let's welcome Naraesh to the group! πŸŽΈπŸŽ…
@Naraesh Aluri started out on acoustic, but decided to go electric not too long ago. He's also from California and is apparently a bit of a globetrotter 🌍 He wants to get more consistent with his practice as well. Let's give him a motivation boost guys!

I have been taking a deep dive into Time and it's guitar solo, trying to break down and analyze each lick it is made up of to better understand solos in general. You can't really study Time without also studying Breathe as its reprise is the unofficial final verse of Time. I stumbled upon a reddot post comparing the prose of both of these songs and it got my story teller brain working and I figured this was the best place to share my thoughts. The introspective nature of this era of Pink Floyd's lyrics are honestly my pick for the greatest of all time. Simple prose almost like limericks, but they really packed a punch. Breathe and Time parallel stories of individuals making two different decisions early in their life. With a 5 act structure illustrating how they different and similar these paths can be. Breathe is somewhat optimistic but also mysterious enough in verbiage that it can be taken as a tale of optimism or caution. Time on the other hand is clearly cautionary and banally tragic. To keep this guitar related, this shows in the great chord progressions of both, with breathe being one of the most unique I've ever heard. Time is much more of faithful to a slow moving melancholic The protagonist of Breathe leaves home early and with ambition determined to decide his own fate Where as in Time they wait around for something to come to them In Breathe they make memories and enjoy life in their prime In Time they grow bored and waste their days until they realize their prime is almost over. In Breathe the now middle aged protagonists ambitions bury him into his work, as he presumably forgets to sit down and enjoy the life he's built. In Time the protagonist spends his middle age years trying to make up for the time he wasted. The ending of breathe seems more up to interpretation, At first I thought it was a song about how ambition can keep you away from what makes life great. As riding the tide let's you live long and fly high. But the protagonist did not make that choice, so he presumably rode the biggest wave and died early due to stress.

@Christian Lie Dark Side Animals Meddle I make it a point to listen to the wall in its entirety every year or so too, but I listen to those others at least once every few months. Dark Side is honestly a perfect vinyl release. The A and B sides are both really well managed.

@Clemens Hackmack It's kinda wild how they managed to be so accessible to non music theory nerds but also experiment so much that they were a big part prog rock scene. I love King Crimson but it's definitely not something I put on for people who haven't listened to a lot of music already or don't have experience playing an instrument. And that's how I kinda feel a lot of those bands from the prog scene.

Wanted to practice my timing and play something live without any overdubs, and what’s better for that than a looper pedal? 😁 If your timing is bad, the looper will expose you instantly. How do you usually practice timing and rhythm?

I was thinking when I clicked this it was gonna be some vamps or something. When I first joined this sub Christian taught me that metronome drill starting with wholes and eventually ending on 16ths. I got real creative with that for a minute and it definitely helped, but I never kept up with it.

@Nikola Gugoski If only they knew how hard it was to make it look easy...
Clementine by Elliott Smith 🎸
Absolutely loved this song since the day i heard it. And it's a lot of fun to play on the guitar as well. Hope this inspires you to learn something new this weekend :)

Were the vocal melody lines always on the song? Or are you venturing into classical?
