@Jeanette Beninger thank you for asking. Things are looking okay. My cilantro is dying and my one little pinkish strawberry is cracking so I must be doing something wrong. Otherwise, my jalapeno, mint, basil, and oregano are doing pretty well.
🌱 Seed Starting Done Right – Day 1 of 5 Before You Plant: The 3 Seed-Starting Mistakes That Cause Most Failures
Seed starting season is exciting. Fresh packets. Tiny trays. Big dreams. And then… Nothing sprouts. Or everything sprouts and flops. Before we blame the seeds, let’s talk about the three mistakes that quietly cause most seed-starting frustration. 🌱 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 #𝟏: 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐨 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 This one gets almost everyone at least once. The general rule: Plant seeds at a depth about 2–3 times their size. Tiny seeds? They barely need covering. Some (like lettuce or many flowers) actually need light to germinate. If seeds are buried too deep: * They use all their stored energy trying to reach the surface * They exhaust themselves before breaking through When in doubt? Go shallow. 💧 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 #𝟐: 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐓𝐨𝐨 𝐌𝐮𝐜𝐡 (𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠) Seeds need moisture, not mud. Overwatering causes: * Damping off * Mold * Weak roots * Rot before sprouting The soil should feel: * Moist like a wrung-out sponge * Not dripping. Not soggy * Consistency beats soaking 💡 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 #𝟑: 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Seeds germinate in warmth. Seedlings grow in light. If light is: * Too far away * Too dim * Too short in duration You’ll get tall, skinny, leaning seedlings. And it happens fast. Light should sit 2–3 inches above seedlings and stay on 12–16 hours per day. 🌿 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 Most seed failures aren’t mysterious. They’re simple: * Depth * Moisture * Light Get those right, and success jumps dramatically. 🌼 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰 They’re designed for it. When you provide: * The right depth * Even moisture * Strong light They respond. Seed starting isn’t about luck. It’s about small, repeatable decisions 🌱 What are you starting right now - vegetables, herbs, flowers, or all three? Drop what’s in your trays this week 👇🌿

I started cilantro, chives, basil, and mint. First time starting from seed. My mint hasn’t sprouted yet so I think those didn’t make it.
