🧠 Are emotions hardwired into us… or created in real time?
Psychology professor Lisa Feldman Barrett discusses her lab’s research on how emotions are constructed by the brain rather than “wired” into us from birth. According to her work, emotions are predictions — the brain making its best guess based on past experiences, context, and bodily sensations. That raises a powerful question: If emotions are constructed, does that mean we can change the way we feel? Can we train our brains to interpret situations differently? Can awareness reshape emotional reactions over time? Watch the talk and drop your thoughts below 👇

As she expressed in this video, I too found this hard to believe until she showed the evidence. Just as I have learned more about behavior, I am aware that we have less "free will" than we want to believe due to our conditioning and history of learning as well as our current environment. For me feelings always felt like such a wave. I suppose the knowledge built the levee. That being said, I have often found that the emotion that I once felt was "all-consuming" is simply just a small cry and a move about the day.

It’s easy to be mad.
How often do you find yourself being compassionate towards others… towards yourself? We are all products of our environment, circumstance, and learning history. All this to say, find a way to be kind to yourself today.
