The Hidden Problem With Streaks (including Skoolโ€™s ๐Ÿ”ฅ)
Iโ€™ve been thinking a lot about streaks lately. Not the โ€œfunโ€ kind, but the kind that quietly crush engagement. In this episode, I dig into why streaks often backfire: one missed day, the streak resets to zero, and suddenly the userโ€™s identity (โ€œIโ€™m a meditator,โ€ โ€œIโ€™m a language learnerโ€ or a Skool flame-bearer) collapses with it. Thatโ€™s when the rage-quitting begins. The good news? Flexible streak design, recovery paths, and better messaging can completely change the retention curve. Streaks donโ€™t need to be a time bomb, they can actually support long-term engagement when designed with human psychology in mind. Whatโ€™s your experience with streaks, have you ever quit an app because you lost one?

@Rob Alvarez basically itโ€™s a challenge to help gain confidence being on video through sharing 90 days of short videos for feedback in a smaller, encouraging community in order to help someone who needs to feel more ready or confident before putting stuff out into the โ€œwider worldโ€ But they donโ€™t have to be in a solid streak to โ€œcountโ€ towards being considered a personal success. And at the end you are considered โ€œAlumniโ€ but you donโ€™t have to keep starting over if the days arenโ€™t in a row!

@Rob Alvarez yes, that could be fun to have what you are doing be represented by a status bar growing towards an end goal. Like the way it does in a classroom course as you click the green checkmarks for each page you advance past.
Gamified safety training: win or fail?
Gamified safety training: win or fail? ๐Ÿ”ฅ Soโ€ฆ I tried putting out a VR fire and forgot to call emergency services. (Yes, I really did. And yes, itโ€™s in the episode ๐Ÿ˜…) In this sponsored session with Ludus, I tested five different health & safety VR simulations โ€” from firefighting to CPR (using couch cushions!) and even recycling. It was fun, messy, and full of takeaways about how game-inspired training can build real skills and give instant feedback. If you want to see me fail forward (and sometimes succeed), the full video/episode is there

This has been my experience with CPR training as well. But I can see how some sort of โ€œgameโ€ to put you in real life scenarios and force you to fire off with the right steps would help you feel more confident in a REAL, real life event. Iโ€™d imagine the fact that if your brain had already faced, to at least some degree, the intensity you might feel in the actual circumstance, it would help it better serve up the sequence of steps needed.

Also curious what LOOT (framework) stands forโ€ฆ assuming itโ€™s an acronym for something? I noticed itโ€™s on the about page as well, but Iโ€™ve not seen anywhere inside where itโ€™s expounded on. (Maybe I just havenโ€™t watched enough videos yet to find that reference explained? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ)

Last thing, then Iโ€™ll stop commenting for now ๐Ÿ˜œ TBH, all those names seem kind of boring and generic, especially for a community that wants to show how to bring things alive with gamification. (At least thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m gathering your primary focus isโ€ฆ but Iโ€™ll wait for you to respond before I โ€œassumeโ€ anymore ๐Ÿซข
Would you rather: get 100 paying members in 1 year or 50 in 3 months?
I'm curious, what do you think? I'll be reading the comments and answer myself after a while.

For me, it would totally depend on retention. Whichever of the two processes gave me the best overall retention. If either gave me about the sameโ€ฆ Iโ€™d go with whichever one was the easiest/most enjoyable for me to use. The only thing about the faster growth is wondering how it might affect me and my quality of managing the communityโ€ฆ Iโ€™d donโ€™t think Iโ€™d want to grow too fast in the beginning if I was still refining things. Nowโ€ฆ if I could only settle on my โ€œone thingโ€ ๐Ÿ™ƒ
