Travel Tuesday
Let’s talk road life. What’s one place you’ve stayed, stopped, eaten, shopped, walked through, or accidentally found that other travelers should know about? Campground, coffee shop, bar, restaurant, dog-friendly stop, roadside attraction, small business, scenic pull-off, weird little place you didn’t expect to like — whatever made the trip better. Drop the place in the comments. Tell us where it is, what made it worth stopping for, and whether you’d go back.

I'll go first. We went over to Kickstands Bar & Grill Saturday night. It's just across the highway from where we are staying and it's also a campground. We haven't toured the campground yet and we didn't try the food yet. There was a band and I tend to enjoy listening to most live music. The drinks were high ($8.39 for a can of local beer) and the band wasn't great but I'd still give it another shot and I do want to go back and try the food. I also want to go on a nicer evening/day because it looks like they have an outdoor band venue as well as big roll up doors for the bar area. Few days ago I posted about going to Gas Monkey-Sturgis. I definitely want to go back and try the food. The vibe was great and the people were friendly. I do have to say that they say the south has hospitality but I've experienced the nicest people here in SD.

@Dawn Smith that sounds like fun. There’s a group of wild donkeys somewhere around Custer-I should use the term wild loosely as they love human attention apparently and you are allowed to feed them.

This morning I found out about a meat market over in Piemont, SD. It's only about 15 minutes from where I am. Back in Maryland I shopped at a small town grocer with a large meat counter that would cut to order. I could buy cases of meat. The meat always tasted better than what we could get at the grocery store. Since we got out here to Sturgis we have tried two local grocery stores-no complaints; one local meat market in Sturgis-I did get 90/10 ground beef for $8.00 a pound. I love the individual packages. Also got a beef heart we sliced up for the dogs. The one we are going to try next in Piemont has meat packages. Not sure of individual pricing on meats. They do have a 25 lb bag of ground beef for $170. I need to check the ratio, it didn't say online. The biggest issue for me so far with living in an RV is learning to shop differently. I'm used to buying larger quantities of meat and putting in the big freezer. No room to do that here. I have considered buying a small deep freezer and then selling it before leaving-that only works if we are in one location for at least 3-4 months IMO.
