How to Choose Where to Live in Portugal
Portugal is quite varied when it comes to the feel and lifestyle that you can experience. It makes it almost like throwing a dart at a board when choosing where to live. I started a YouTube channel recently, https://www.youtube.com/@LivinginLisbonPortugalarea where I give neighborhood tours and show the differences in microneighborhoods, streets, types of homes, urban vs. rural, coastal, all variations. I publish twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. I've started in Lisbon and within a one hour radius of Lisbon and will eventually expand from there. Is there a street, neighborhood, city, or town you'd like to see me do a video on?

I Just Started Portuguese Language Lessons - Let's Talk
After living here for over 3 years, I finally started Portuguese lessons. I've heard horror stories about some people's experiences with lessons. Mine so far are awesome. Are you taking lessons?

I am taking lessons once a week one-on-one and then working on homework from that all week. I am augmenting with some YouTube videos from Maria or Carla most days. What are you doing to learn Portuguese?

Portuguese classes are coming along nicely! It does not take long to learn enough Portuguese to understand A LOT! I've learned a few things about choosing classes, too. Let's talk.
What Other Countries Are You Considering?
I know when I was planning to move back to Europe a few years ago, I considered several countries other than just Portugal. I decided on Portugal for a list of reasons. Now it looks like the time you have to be a legal resident before you can apply for citizenship is going to increase to 10 years from 5 years. That was not the only reason I chose Portugal, but I do remember putting Portugal ahead of Spain because of Spain's 10 years before you can apply for citizenship. Thankfully there are many other things I love about Portugal, and now I am learning the language, so I'm invested in sticking around. How about you? What other countries are you considering or did you consider? What are your top considerations?

I thought I would introduce myself better. I have lived in Portugal for three years. I moved because I wanted to live in a place with lots of sun, safety, a sense of place and history. I was also moving away from gun violence, toxic capitalism, a complete lack of work-life balance, and loads of stress. I am a medical doctor for over 30 years, a functional medicine doctor since the beginning of functional medicine, mother of 6 now adult children. I lived in France for years. I moved my young children to the South of France, specifically to the Montpellier area in May 2000. I started helping others to move abroad back then. I have so many stories to tell.
Sunday Morning
After a couple days of gloomy gray skies and rain, today I woke up to blue sky and sunshine. What a relief because I was started to feel like I have Seasonal Affective Disorder. I love sunshine! That is one reason I chose Portugal and a reason I chose the South of France in the past. I love the energy of Sundays here in Lisbon. The quiet and calm are palpable. It's a great day to take a long passeio.
