Start here (and tell me what you want to build)
Welcome to the club. Quick version of why this place exists: everyone's using AI to build software, and I think most of them are missing the more interesting move... For less than 50 quid you can buy a little computer, plug it in, and have Claude write the code to make it do genuinely useful stuff. No soldering. No electronics background. I'd know, I haven't got one. I run a marketing agency. Six months ago I couldn't have built any of this. Right now there are devices on my desk that: - Show my Claude Code usage so I can see it working - Scroll through my calendar, the weather, and a client's live ad numbers - Play a fanfare when that client makes a sale (easily the best feature I've built) I'm five devices in and I'm documenting everything here as I go: what I buy, what it costs, what breaks, the prompts I use, the code Claude writes, all of it. The builds that fail go up too, because that's where the actual lessons are. I'm not an expert. I'm maybe three weeks ahead of you. That's the point of the club: work it out in public, together. Do these two things now: 1. Drop a comment introducing yourself: who you are and what you'd put on a little screen on YOUR desk if you could. Best answer gets built on camera. 2. Turn on notifications for this group so you catch the builds as they land. Fish

Love the idea of the group, I've been a software engineer for about 15 years, but have never made the jump to hardware and want to start. Now that I've bought my first home, I'm aggressively setting it up as a smart home, so stuff like this really appeals to me right now. I'd love a real-time "second brain", where you can have it listen into calls and surface relevant info or insights in real-time (basically a second brain that has access to embeddings of your work, call recordings etc.). For example, imagine you're on a call with a client and they ask "what's the status of [whatever]?" and the device listening-in is connected to a an agent that immediately runs a query on a knowledgebase of your projects and silently surfaces the answer. No more scrambling around in Slack or Linear to find the answer! I can imagine it being a bit of a faff to get all the inputs sorted so there's a meaningful RAG pipeline and MCP access to all the things it needs, but the payoff would be worth it, you'd seem like a genius all them time. Its usefulness goes way beyond calls as well, you could talk to it on your own as well, to either input info, or ask for retrieval.

@Nick Fisher Yeah, it's a tough one, but it's defo more of a software project than a hardware project. Thinking about it more, it makes sense for the retrieval to be a completely headless API, so you can connect it to various devices. That way, anywhere there's a surface, there's answers. The hardware is essentially just any networked display, and you could have multiple.
