US to International Transition
So I'm wanting to step outside the US to work. Specifically South Africa or Australia. I have a family and specialize in Marine Construction. Anyone American Divers have any experience navigating this transition? I've looked into the DCBC - Adas crossover and understand it, but after that I'm alittle confused with the citizenship part for Australia and getting the work visa. As for South Africa I wasn't able to come up with a solid route of getting in. All information is welcomed.

I can only give you my journey and my experience. Im a 35 year old Veteran. I transitions from the army to General Contractor then to Commercial Diver. I found it easy to find a job. I came from DIT in Seattle Washington 109-24. I've been diving for almost 1 year now with about 70 dives under my belt. I started applying for jobs about 4 months before graduation to any and every dive company I could find. I did about 20 interviews in total. Alot were failures and alot were really good in my opinion. I found McLean Contracting the best fit for me. They were a pure construction company that had started a new dive division. I have a construction backround and they hit my pay requirements I needed. With 20 interviews I had about 11 offers all ranging from 21/hr to 32/hr. It was the larger companies I had more trouble getting offers from. Aqueous, Ballard, and Global i didn't have any offers from and they were my first choices. Inland with McLean it took them about 3 months to finally start getting in the water regularly. I don't have experience offshore, but I have classmates that went to the gulf and 6 months in they were getting dives. I wouldn't say they are broke out by any means but they do dive occasionally. I wouldn't focus so much on offshore or inland. I'd focus on getting the offers coming in and making sure the pay fits the locality. 30 dollars in NY is different from 30 dollars in Mississippi which is different from 30 dollars in California. It's all about production and being able to get the task accomplished in a timely manner.
