I have loads of beautiful online artwork images I collected together, mostly little known artists. I'd like to sell these as posters in my etsy shop, crediting the artist when I know it, rather than create my own images. Can I legally do this? What about the images with no artist credit availabe? Or what if you've tried to contact the artist for a licencing agreement but can't find them? Or if they're deceased? What about anon AI art that you see online? Is there somewhere I can get correct legal info on all this?! I'm in UK. And what about if you have your own e-commerce website store and not Etsy? Who's going to ban you??! I see Wix can. I guess people will says it's illegal but I feel like I want to try anyway as they are so beautiful...

Hi Deborah, I would really advise against doing this. It is illegal and if you do get caught out, you could be in a lot of trouble. It can also be very distressing for the original artist to see their work being stolen, no matter how well known or obscure they are. I know that there are different rules surrounding artists who are deceased, but I’m not too sure of the legalities around that. What I would do is take the images that you like into ChatGPT, get it to analyse what it is that works about them and makes them appealing, and ask it to generate something for you (without copying directly) using these rules. Then you have something of your own to sell without any complications.
Anyone Using ChatGPT for Image Generation
Does anyone here actually use ChatGPT to create their images? I’ve tried loads of different AI image generators over the last while, but I keep finding myself coming back to ChatGPT. I mainly use it to help write prompts, but every now and then I accidentally word my request wrong and it generates an image instead of a prompt… and sometimes the image ends up being better than what I was aiming for! 😂 Just curious if anyone is using ChatGPT as their main image generator for there posters, or if you’re using something else. I’d love to hear what’s working best for everyone.

@Richie Bromley I’ve only just started and had a handful of sales but I just got my first review yesterday and the customer seemed to be delighted! I’ve also had a few printed out myself locally as giclee prints and have always been really happy with them. I agree - some of the images are fantastic…it’s just learning to be patient with it when it decides not to listen to you that’s the challenge 😂
My first sale!
Ooh, I just heard a 'cha-ching' on my phone and I had to do a double-take when I saw that I had made my first sale! I've only been uploading for less than a fortnight, just very slowly (1 or 2 a day) and I only have 17 posters in my shop at the moment and definitely wasn't expecting anything until I had dozens and dozens, but I'm so excited - and kind of nervous too 😄 So, I've paid for it and its gone into my paid orders now and I imagine that I just wait for a tracking number and then I can mark it as dispatched? Eeek, I'll need to have a lie down now 😂

@Garreth Paterson I create them mainly in ChatGPT and then fiddle about with them in Procreate.

@Garreth Paterson I pay £20 a month for ChatGPT and I do like it, but I suspect that there are others which are more suitable for image generation, and it can be quite frustrating at times. Procreate is a drawing app and it’s a one time cost. I’ve been using it for years as I do make my own illustrations and I’d definitely recommend it if you like digital drawing and art, but if it’s just purely AI generation that you’re after then you could probably live without procreate.
Etsy Shop
I have an Etsy shop already that's in holiday mode (as been for 2 years lol) I used to make personalised items. My question is, should I set up a new shop or use this one? Any advice greatly received ☺️

I had an old Etsy shop with a few reviews in it and i just resurrected that one for my poster journey. I think that you have to pay to open a new Etsy shop nowadays (which you didn’t used to have to do), and new shops seem to get an awful lot of spam mail and scammy messages when they first open, which older shops don’t. I just updated my banner, changed some of my info and started listing!
