Seances and The Philip Experiment
Have you ever been to a Seance or Table Tipping? I have an aquaintance who is a Spiritual Medium and does Table Tipping. It's a pretty cool experience. Have you heard of The Philip Experiment? In the early 1970's a team from the Toronto Society for Psychical Research experimented with seances. However, their goal was NOT to prove we could contact spirits of the dead. They believed that the contact produced through seances was the product of collective belief and expectation projected by the human mind. They started by creating a fictional person, complete with physical description, history etc. This was to make sure there was no chance of contacting the spirit of an actual person. His name was Philip Aylesford. For a year nothing happened. Then the group decided to change up how they were doing the seances, thinking that "their scientific method" was the issue. So they dimmed the lights and performed the experiment in a more "traditional sceance" style. Then things started to happen. Knocks on the table, a distinct draft, temperture changes, lights flickering. Even the table itself began to move, to the extent of levitating and sliding right across the floor. The results were even captured on film. The team reported that due to Philip being made up, the phenomenon had to be due to psychokinesis - phenomenon or manifestation created by the combined beliefs of the participants. Others felt it was a simple example of the ideomotor effect where the members subconsciously caused the effects that were witnessed. To test if the results could be replicated, further experiments were done in later years with different groups of people and newly created fictional characters: Lilith Axel Sebastian Skippy Humphrey What do you think of this experiment? What's your overall thoughts on seances on general?

This is interesting because part of me things it could be connected to the group and another part wonders if maybe their "fictional" character might have actually existed at some point in time, especially since time is a construct.

@Donna Conrad That is the problem with people needing to "prove" that things are real. What ever happened with "trust"?
