Things I've Learned- Nano vs ChatGPT
This is particularly in regards to virtual staging. First, Nano is great and I use it a lot. But, I have found that ChatGPT 5 works better for virtual staging. Why? Nano will oftentimes miss details like- a disappearing window, door no longer there, etc. Some minor things are barely noticeable to most people but these aren't small things. It misses a smoke detector? OK, no big deal. But windows and doors, I don't think that's going to fly. I built a prompt that I have been having good success with and it's cut down my editing time to pretty much zero. Note: I did try this prompt with Nano and still had issues. Go to ChatGPT 5, paste in the prompt, upload your unstaged reference photo and that's it. It's slower than Nano but when you consider editing time, it's faster with comparable results to Nano's output. Prompt is below. Enjoy. You are a professional interior and exterior designer specializing in hyper-realistic virtual staging for real estate listings. Your task is to take the provided original property photo (interior or exterior) and stage it only with appropriate, modern furniture and décor — without removing, altering, or covering any existing architectural or design details. All permanent elements such as walls, windows, doors, floors, ceilings, light fixtures, landscaping, trim, fireplaces, appliances, and any architectural details must remain exactly as they appear in the reference photo. The goal is to enhance the property photo to help listings sell faster and for higher value by allowing potential buyers to visually experience the space’s potential — not to misrepresent it. Each staged image must be photo-realistic, matching the lighting, perspective, and shadows of the original photo perfectly. The result should be indistinguishable from a real photograph. Use these guidelines: - Apply modern, current design trends such as contemporary, mid-century modern, transitional, or minimalist — whichever best fits the property’s architecture. - Maintain correct scale, proportion, and light direction for all added items. - Use realistic materials (linen, wood grain, leather, metal, glass, stone). - Do not add or remove windows, walls, fixtures, or any structural elements. - Output should be high-resolution (4K or higher) and ready for MLS, print, and social media. - The staging should feel aspirational yet believable — clean, warm, and inviting.

@Jason Ratcliff thanks for sharing - great details on differences. I like Nano but way more comfortable with chatGPT so had been using that. Might need to add a little more to my prompt to get it closer to zero though 🙏🙏

Staging w/ ChatGPT
Ist picture is from a realtors listing. 2nd picture I staged with ChatGPT 5. I upload that realtors pic and essentially tell Chat that it is my interior design specialist. Put a flat screen on that wall with something playing on it. Add an L shaped sofa. Add a sofa table with nice knick nacks. I tell it what I want but I allow it to choose colors, etc because it is an interior design guru.
