Introduction
Hi everyone, I’m Tom, 19, from England. I’m an SSI Divemaster and starting the 10-week HSE Air Diver course at CDT on 7th September. I’m looking to get into inshore commercial diving straight after qualifying, build up experience and then move offshore. I’ve been reading up a lot before the course and would be interested in any advice on getting that first inshore job, what companies are good to approach and what experience/tickets are worth getting for eventually moving offshore. Morning @Tom Palmer-Smith! I qualified with CDT in June. You’ll have a good time down there. The main instructor Graham is a legend, he a great teacher. I didn’t struggle for work after the course with the values he installed in to us all. During the last week of my course I started to call and email all the local companies where I’m based and reached out to the more nationwide ones also. Even though I’ve got work I still email and call just to keep my name in the loop. Just work hard and do what you say you can do, don’t give any false promises and you’ll be fine!

Beginning the grind
Hey all, new to the group and just about to start the journey. 24, from the UK, living in UAE & spent the last 5 years working commercial office jobs because I thought ‘I had to’ to make money, but last few months realised that my time working in industrial construction + teaching rec diving were some of the best times of my life. Figured what better way to make a career than combining my love for being subsea with my love for construction work and move towards commercial diving. I previously worked with a number of commercial diving companies out here in UAE and I’m wondering if a sensible pivot would be to try to find an opportunity with one of them and try to get them to semi-fund my training…? Not sure if anyone has any experience with that going successfully…?

@Tris Barford I’m in that course at the moment. You will soon realise that any ticket you want in the commercial world will set you back some serious readies. Worth it in the long run though. The lads here at CDT are great though, would definitely recommend them if you want to do your course with this company 🤝

Starting HSE 10 Week Diving Course on Monday
Just wanted to say that I'm grateful for the man himself @Jed Curtis for setting this page up, along with all the contributors, fills me with hope and I am really looking forward to doing the course and getting into the industry. See you on the other side!
