Crystal Spotlight - Kunzite
Kunzite has one of those energies that feels soft at first, but the more time we spend around it, the more we realize how deeply it works. There’s a tenderness to it that often reaches people who have spent a long time staying emotionally guarded, over-functioning for others, or carrying stress in the chest and nervous system. It has a very “open the windows and let fresh air into the heart” kind of feeling. A lot of people are drawn to Kunzite during periods of grief, emotional exhaustion, relationship healing, or spiritual awakening. It tends to encourage emotional honesty while also helping us feel safe enough to actually process what we’re carrying. Physical Overview Kunzite is the pink to lilac variety of the mineral spodumene, a lithium aluminum inosilicate. Its color can range from very pale blush pink all the way to deeper lavender-pink tones, depending on manganese content and exposure to light. Some pieces are nearly transparent while others have a silky, glowing appearance. It has a hardness of about 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, though it has perfect cleavage, which means it can crack or split more easily than some people expect. Jewelry made with Kunzite should be treated gently. Many specimens show strong pleochroism, meaning the color can appear different depending on the angle we view it from. Some pieces look almost clear in one direction and richly pink in another. Kunzite can also fade with prolonged sunlight exposure, so it’s best stored out of direct light. Major sources include Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, Pakistan, and the United States, especially California. Physically, many crystal workers associate Kunzite with the nervous system, emotional tension held in the body, heart-centered stress responses, and supporting deep rest and relaxation. Energetic & Metaphysical Qualities Kunzite is often connected with unconditional love, emotional openness, compassion, receptivity, and gentle heart healing. Unlike some heart-centered stones that feel intensely emotional, Kunzite often works in a calmer, more soothing way. It has a very “safe softness” to it.
