Question for experienced martial artists
I started JuJutso 5 months back just after my 2 children enrolled. Itโ€™s the first martial art Iโ€™ve ever been exposed to and itโ€™s been eye-opening, a window into a different world. Iโ€™m absolutely loving the challenge and just graded successfully to yellow belt. Itโ€™s promising to be a really interesting journey. The question I wanted to ask of those that have been training for years is; what advice would you give to someone just starting out, especially in regards to preventing injury and maintaining the body and motivation?

Damien, great of you start your journey, trust that once you step on the mats you'll never look back. As someone who's been doing this for longer than I haven't, in 2 different countries, some great advice I was given when I first began and shall now translate and pass on is "Attitude is more crucial than ability in martial arts, because you could kick really high and still not be a great martial artist, it's about discipline, respect and continued learning." Black belts were all once white belts who were probably nervous but looked up to the black belts as someone to aspire to be. I was taught to begin developing all the crucial qualities of a black belt from the moment I first put on my dobok. I guess that would be my advice: never stop learning, strengthen mental discipline and above all every time you come to training walk in with the attitudes of a future black belt. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I think for me, I love a class exercise related game, a fun challenge, or trivia/fun fact learning of some sort (eg. teach Korean terminology, one or two as a takeaway)
