I once had a student call a guy older than her "oppa" the moment they met instant "okay, let's slow down" moment. These terms are everywhere in K-pop and K-dramas, but knowing exactly who to use them on is a different story 👇 🙋‍♀️ 오빠 (oppa) Used by a woman for an older man. But only someone you're somewhat close with. Use it right when you meet, and it can feel like you're jumping ahead. 🙋 형 (hyung) Used by a man for an older man. Idol groups use this constantly — a running reminder of how much hierarchy matters. 💁‍♀️ 언니 (unnie) / 💁 누나 (noona) The "older sister" terms. 언니 for women, 누나 used by men. You've heard these in fandoms calling out a group's oldest member. Familiar after hearing them nonstop But knowing who to actually use them on? Different skill entirely.
