The Static That Shaped Our Soundtrack
šŸŽ¶ Growing up as a military brat meant our soundtrack was unlike anyone else’s. Thanks to Armed Forces Radio, we didn’t have a set ā€œformatā€ like Top 40 or country or R&B. Instead, we got everything. Rock, soul, country, jazz, disco, classical, oldies—you name it, they played it. Why? Because the mission wasn’t to cater to one group of listeners—it was to give every soldier, from every corner of the country, a taste of home. And in the process, we brats ended up with some of the most eclectic, diverse musical tastes you’ll ever find. Looking back, I realize those static-filled broadcasts weren’t just background noise… they were the bridge that connected us to home and exposed us to sounds we might never have discovered otherwise. šŸ’æ What’s a song or artist you first heard on Armed Forces Radio that still brings back memories today?

American Top 40 on the radio on Saturdays headed to post with mom and dad. Listening to Charlie Tuna. What memories!

It’s Motivational Monday!
Growing up as Brats, we know better than most that there’s always more to the story.Different bases, different cultures, different people—perspective has shaped who we are. That’s why it’s important not to get stuck on one angle or one side. The full picture changes everything. Stay open. Stay aware. That’s how we grow. #MotivationalMonday #MilitaryBratUniversity

You are absolutely right in this regard. The experiences we had growing up as BRATs prepared us for change. We got along with others quickly and learned it was more about common experiences and getting along that made things work for us.

@Jason Ray that's great to know. I attended WAHS but did not graduate from there. We just had a big reunion for all classes in Vegas in June. Our next is in June 2028.
Terrific Tuesday Reminder
The Brat Life Cycle wasn’t always easy — new bases, new schools, new friends, and constant goodbyes. At the time it was challenging, but looking back, those experiences shaped us into stronger, more adaptable, and resilient people. We’ve all carried those lessons forward, and for that, we’re better today. #MilitaryBratLife #BratLifeCycle #AdaptAndOvercome #BuiltByExperience #TerrificTuesday

It is funny. I told my daughters that they would be more successful at establishing relationships in any situation or location than their "peers" in school. They came back years later and said that I was right. We knew how to meet new people and establish bonds quickly as BRATs.
