最近在寫小日記的時候，想表達： 「這是一個為期三週的課程。」 我第一個想到的是： 👉 It’s three weeks long. 但後來查了一下，又學到一個很好用的 chunk： 👉 It lasts for three weeks. 原來 last 當動詞的時候，有「持續、維持一段時間」的意思。 所以看到 last + 一段時間，就可以理解成：last = 持續多久 造句練習： 👉 The course lasts for three weeks. 這門課為期三週。 👉 The meeting lasts for an hour. 這場會議會持續一個小時。 👉 How long does the meeting last? 這場會議會開多久？ 這裡有一個小地方要特別注意 👀 ❌ It’s last for three weeks. 因為 last 是動詞，所以不能用 It’s。 要說： ✅ It lasts for three weeks.

有朋友為了參加年底的馬拉松賽事，最近開始密集訓練。 突然想到：「加油」到底要怎麼用英文說啊？ 我第一個想到的是： 「Come on!」🤔 後來去查／去問 AI，學到一個新的 chunk： 👉 You got this! 原來中文的「加油、你可以的」除了用 Come on!，也可以用 You got this! 來表達。 尤其看到朋友正在努力做一件事的時候，直接喊： You got this! ＝你可以的！／撐住！／加油！ 像馬拉松現場就可以喊： You got this! Keep going! 你可以的！繼續跑！

Felix 的 uncle 送了他一台舊式的拋棄式底片相機。現在的小孩應該很少看過這種相機，腦中在想要怎麼介紹給日本同學知道。 Felix 後來有拿這台相機跟日本同學一起拍照。我想跟他們解釋，這種相機不像手機一樣，可以馬上看到照片，要等底片洗出來之後才看得到。 我可以這樣說： This is an old-style camera. You can take pictures with it, but you can’t see them right away. I’m going to get the photos developed. We have to wait for the photos to be developed. When they’re ready, I’ll bring them to you. 這次學到的 useful chunks： - old-style camera = 老式相機 - disposable film camera = 拋棄式底片相機 - can’t see the pictures right away = 不能馬上看到照片 - get the photos developed = 去洗照片／把照片拿去沖洗 - wait for the photos to be developed = 等照片洗出來 - When they’re ready... = 等照片好了之後…… - I’ll bring them to you. = 我會再帶來給你們 👉我特別想記住 get the photos developed，因為以前看到「洗照片」很容易直覺想到 wash，但英文會用 develop。

昨天在樓下餐廳遇到住在同一層的鄰居，我們是第一次見面。 我兒子比我勇敢很多，他直接跑去隔壁桌找他們的小孩玩，後來我們英文聊了一下。後來才知道他們是從加州來的。 聊天的時候，我想表達 Felix 很喜歡交朋友，也很喜歡跟陌生人聊天，所以我說： Felix likes to make friends and chat with strange people. 當下對方媽媽其實有聽懂我的意思，但我回來後還是查了一下 ChatGPT。 才發現： strange people = 奇怪的人 strangers = 陌生人 所以比較自然的說法應該是： Felix likes to make friends and chat with strangers. 或者更口語一點： Felix loves making new friends and talking to people he doesn’t know. 👉這次我學到一個很實用的差別： strange 是「奇怪的」，但 stranger 才是「陌生人」。

前幾次參加 Q&A 的時候，Alley 請我分享目前在日本一天的生活。當下我覺得自己講得很不順，也有很多想說的內容沒有表達出來。 過幾天剛好看到一個 podcast 在分享「日本媽媽都會早起準備早餐和便當」，我心裡想：這不就是在說我嗎！🤣 所以我把 podcast 裡學到的句子，跟自己的生活連在一起，又重新整理了一次自己想表達的內容。 I think it’s really common in Japan for moms to make breakfast and bento for their kids. I do that too. I live in Japan now, and I feel really busy. I have to get up at the same time every weekday morning and make breakfast and lunch for my son because he needs to bring his bento to school. My husband does the drop-off, and I do the pick-up. Around 2 p.m., I get ready to pick him up from school. I have to leave home early because I need to take the train and walk to his school. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to get there. So I feel like time is flying every day. 這次我最想記住的 6個 chunks 是： - It’s common for... to...👉 ……做……很常見 - I do that too.👉我也是這樣 - every weekday morning👉 每個平日早上 - do the drop-off / do the pick-up👉負責送小孩／負責接小孩 - leave home early👉提早出門 - It takes about ... minutes to get there.👉到那裡大約要……分鐘 真的要看(聽)跟自己有關連的大腦才有感覺😂
