🙏🏽 WHEN YOU PRAY… Jesus didn’t simply tell His disciples to pray—He taught them how to pray. In Matthew 6:9–13, He gave us a model that reveals powerful principles for our prayer lives. ✨ Prayer is personal. We approach Him as “Our Father in heaven.” We are not praying to a distant God, but to our loving Father who desires relationship with His children. (Matthew 6:9) 👑 Prayer acknowledges God’s authority. “Your kingdom come.” Prayer is not about convincing God to follow our agenda; it is about submitting ourselves to His Kingdom and His rule. (Matthew 6:10) 🙌🏽 Prayer demonstrates trust. “Your will be done.” Sometimes the greatest prayer of faith is not “Lord, give me what I want,” but “Father, I trust what You want.”(Matthew 6:10) 🍞 Prayer acknowledges our dependence on God. “Give us this day our daily bread.” Every provision, every resource, every open door, and every need ultimately rests in the hands of our Provider. (Matthew 6:11) 🕊️ Prayer seeks God’s guidance and protection. “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” We need God to direct our steps, guard our hearts, and strengthen us against temptation. (Matthew 6:13) Prayer is more than presenting God with a list of requests. Prayer is relationship, surrender, dependence, trust, and alignment with the will of God. We will be taking the provided scriptures, (verses 9-10: Our Father which art in Heaven...Hallowed be thy name...Thy kingdom come..) and be able to pray The Model Prayer. All prayers will begin with verses 9–10 of the Model Prayer, acknowledging who God is, honoring His name, and submitting our prayers to His Kingdom and His will. As you develop your prayer, you are expected to incorporate some of the Scripture verses provided below. You may also use additional Scriptures that are not provided, as long as you correctly exegete the Scripture—meaning you understand and apply the verse according to its proper biblical context and intended meaning. Remember: We are not simply inserting Scriptures into our prayers; we are learning to pray from a correct understanding of God’s Word. Let Scripture shape the prayer rather than taking a verse out of context to support what we want to say.
