Through social media and stuff all we see is people who are posting their "finished products." Even when people post clips of them at the beginning stages of a new skill, the time shown pales in comparison to the sheer amount of actual time and practice it takes to break ground and learn the absolute basics of a new skill before the snowball starts to roll. I feel like this creates a false sense of reality where unless you pick up a new skill naturally, quickly, or spend tons of money on expensive 1 on 1 lessons to do it "right" it's not worth your time learning. What a farse, we waste so much time on the day to day that, in reality, spending even a fraction of that typically wasted time learning or practicing a new skill we would improve so much. Even if you don't get as good as somebody else, who cares? Learning skills/hobbies are self fulfilling, they don't need to be done exclusively for others, likes, money, attention, etc. The self fulfillment comes from the transformation it takes you to be disciplined enough to practice something consistently enough to get "good" at it, and even "good" is relative. I think that's something worth pursuing anyways 🤷♂️
