Market and the news
How's everyone feeling about the stock market? Is the news worrying you and making you change your plan or are you full steam ahead?

Full steam ahead. I just sold some of the bonds and bought stocks on discount! A lot is on clearance right now lol Of course I feel some nervousness about situations in general and worried about people I know who are living in the Middle East especially…but as far as my investing portfolio, I am sticking to the original plan for now, and just rebalanced on Monday.

@Nicole C. I am sticking to my original portfolio plan of 20% bonds and 80% stocks. I haven’t changed anything at all. The percentages changed themselves so I had to sell bonds to get it back to being just 20%.
Just paid off a student loan!
My federal student loans have low interest, therefore they are not my priority…but one of them only had $138 left, so I went ahead and paid it to get a dopamine boost. That’s the third debt I’ve paid off in a week!
Another credit card paid off!
I’m just so excited and had to share. This used to have over $4000 on it. Anyone who knows my story knows why. 🎉

@M. Dove oh I’m doing it!
Another medical bill paid off!
Just paid off my last medical bill related to last year’s surgery I had in May.
Update and next steps
UPDATES 1) W2 job? A manager from a company reached out to me a few weeks ago on LinkedIn and asked me to send my CV. I wasn’t crazy about the idea of going back to work for a company, but I did it just to be polite and not burn bridges. My friend asked me what salary they’d need to offer me for me to accept, and I gave him a number, which we both “knew” was not realistic. The interview was on Wednesday, and wouldn’t you know, the planned pay for the role is exactly the number I told my friend. 😳 If I’m extended the offer, I think I should take it. I’d be able to work from home 100% of the time, and I calculate I’d be able to pay off the rest of the debts in one year instead of 3! 🤞 2) Building a team I’ve finally accepted that I can’t keep up with my workload myself. I’m annoyed that I’ve had to turn down so much work over the last several months. So I’ve decided to hire contractors to help me out with taking on the interpreting jobs, translations and language tutoring. I posted the job on LinkedIn and have 18 applicants. NEXT STEPS I plan to build a scheduling calendar with everyone’s availabilities, and I’ll keep a small percentage of the pay for each job. I guess I’m going to have an agency! The last interpreting job I went on was for an agency. I asked the owner off the record how much he charged the client. He earned $25/hr for every hour I interpreted. Food for thought. So this week, my plan is to interview interpreters, build the language service page and add it to my site, and set up that calendar. I have been getting so many jobs without even marketing, I was afraid to add it to my site because I turn down more work than I can take on. Having contractors will allow me to stop turning down all this work! I’d rather earn a little here and there than to just keep saying, “sorry, I won’t be available that day”. It will feel so much better to say, “Yes, Ms Adriana is available that day and she is an experienced, certified federal court interpreter” or something like that. 😊

@Adriana Garcia-Brown Thanks, but they did not end up hiring me. But it’s ok. I believe I’ll have my debt paid off by October 2027! I’m so excited. I’ve been working on this since June 2022. I felt like I’d never be able to pay it all off—but I will!

@Nicole C. The strange thing is that the job is still posted online. Recruiters and my former coworkers and acquaintances keep telling me I should apply because I would be perfect for the job. 🤷‍♀️ I choose to believe things happen for a reason, and perhaps I would not have been happy there. I am currently earning much less than that role would pay, but I am pretty happy with my current situation of being self-employed. I know with time I will be able to increase my income. I already have—my income has increased a bit every year since 2023. So the trend is right!
