Why mobility is the most underrated tool for runners
Hey everyone 👋 I've been having a lot of conversations with runners recently about mobility, so I thought I'd share a quick thought... Most runners spend their time chasing more miles, faster paces and better fitness. And while those things matter, they're only useful if your body can actually handle the demands of running. That's where mobility comes in. Mobility isn't about becoming a yoga master or touching your toes. It's about giving your body the ability to move well and the strength to have more control over your running. When you move well, running often feels smoother, more comfortable and less restricted. And here's what a lot of runners don't realise. You don't need to spend hours doing it. A few short sessions each week working on key areas like your feet, hips and spine will make a huge difference. The runners who stay healthy and keep improving aren't always the ones doing the most. They're often the ones looking after their bodies consistently. What's one area of your body that feels like it's holding you back when you run? Let me know.

@Jean Kool That's the battle I fight. Working in IT has been a blessing for my pocketbook but a curse for my running. I never realized what all the sitting was doing to me until it was too late.

@Jean Kool My stride is all messed up. Unless I concentrate on what I'm doing when I'm running my left side does just fine my right side not so much. My right side tends to run more with hamstring and glute med. I never realized I was doing that until I started paying attention to things. Now I can't run without thinking about what I'm doing. I am glad that I started paying attention because my running form has improved and my times have improved. But the curse is I can no longer go for a run and not think about anything. I am constantly thinking about my form. I freaking hate it. As they say ignorance is bliss. If I had not gone down the rabbit hole of running form, would I have been a happier runner?

I don't need pictures. I prefer memories. When I first started running, I'd run with my phone so I had music and be able to take pictures of the things I saw. After awhile I realized I had accumulated all these pictures that I didn't look at or show people. I quit carrying my phone for most runs and I'm content with the memories of the run and the sounds of nature. Anymore if I carry my phone on a run it's because my wife guilted me into doing it for "safety reasons".

This Tuesday we did a bubble run. I never done one before. My running buddy invited me along. Yes that is him plowing right through the bubbles and that is me skirting them. 😂

@Caroline Claassen It was definitely different for me. I am usually muddy dusty and dirty after a run. Not smelling like sweet soap afterwards and sparkling clean. 😂

For my longer runs, I've been incorporating Grinds caffeine pouches. They come in different flavors and after a while will all taste the same. 😂 They help me with a little boost of energy and mainly, they help stave off cotton mouth during my run. I've tried gum before but I apparently am not coordinated enough to chew gum and run at the same time. 😅

@Isabela Prates you need to calibrate it. From my research, you need to do a run of at least a mile. Press stop. Somewhere in your settings once you have hit stop you should be able to do a calibration. It is recommended to make it match what the treadmill shows. I hope this helps.

This is from my long run last Sunday. I usually don't run with my phone but I did today so I had some tunes. I'm hard-pressed to take pictures of myself so here are some pictures of scenery I've seen. 😊

I am a recovering alcoholic. I picked up running as a way to quit drinking. I enjoyed challenging myself so much that I began running Ultra Marathons.
