Both our teams are at Cardiff this week. Reevah hoping for some clean sheets 🧺🧤. Took home player of the match last week for Grassroots and Districts, so fingers crossed.
Goalkicks...
Goalkicks have been out main focus at training this week for our two keepers, one thing I've noticed is at a young age not many keepers opt for the long kick and play out from the back, we are currently under 10's and with some tweaks in technique one of our keepers can confidently clear the heads of players with a 30 yard goalkick 9/10 times. It seems to me like the standard goalkick is being coached out of the game, has anyone else noticed this

Hi @Nathan Hallwood yes, I’m a coach for the under 10s and we see a lot of goalkeepers struggle with goal kicks and a lot play from the back, which can put the defenders in trouble at times. Part of training our girls, I try and get our two keepers kicking the ball but getting the position and foot control correct. If the positioning is not correct they will always struggle with getting them long balls out 🧤

@Nathan Hallwood yeah it's important to get them to practice the kicking. I feel the feet are just as important as the hands for a keeper these days. 🧤

@Andrew Clarke what I would say to a keeper in the bigger goals or any goals to be fair is, when the striker or player comes towards you come out off the line to meet them and make goals smaller and put them under pressure to shoot. Also, it’s all about remaining on you’re toes, balance on the front of the feet to easily move around the goal line and make quick decisions and be brave. 🧤

@Andrew Clarke There’s lots of good videos out there showing a lot of training sessions for keepers and how they come out to make themselves big against strikers etc. Hope it goes well for her 🧤

Yeah, I have an Instagram page for my daughter who is 10, but I run it. I use it to promote her accomplishments, matches, and show how she’s getting on and progression through becoming a great goalkeeper 🧤
