Tooth 3
After a few months I revisited my tooth painting, just wasn’t happy with it. If you recall , this was about a scout trip we took in the mountains and I wanted it as a present to my son. Although he is happy with it, I wasn’t, so I took it back to try something different. This first is the new painting. I tried to improve depth and increase contrast as well as darkening and putting some movement in the sky. Changed the composition a bit too. Any thoughts?

@Mak Olvik Mak thanks for your suggestions. Great idea to add some shading to force more tonal variations. Fortunately the hikers were okay once I shortened the tall grasses. I originally put the grass in to somewhat block the viewer eyes from thinking they were the subject, which was a hair brain idea. Tinkered with bluing up the distant mountains and tried to add more tonal variations in the trees and rocks. The photo doesn’t pick up the warm golden color of the fields but it’s there. At this point I think I’m finished. Again thanks.
Renegade Nell
My most recent oil painting finished, from an actual vintage photo of a cowgirl named Nellie Brown in 1881. I struggled mightily with the background for months, vanquished the piece to the shelf and let it sit for a few - then circled back around to it. I'm much happier with the whole painting now. šŸ™‚

Very nice painting. Horse and Nellie are painted very realistic. I think the background is perfect.

I'm new to the group and the 'alert' is for me... I feel like this is not my domain - I am the world's laziest artist. I have no formal training and feel resistant to drawing out what I really should before I get started (I think it's my drawing skills that kill my vibe). Somehow, I have managed to create a few paintings I really love. But I've also gone AWOL on my art in lieu of business-building (which seems to have been never-ending for 36 years) ... So, here I am - ready to engage and be inspired by all you incredible people doing incredible heart-based things. Here's a random selection of some of my creations. (Sorry - they seems to have come up a bit grainy in the transfer...)

Very nice variety of work. Wide range of subjects. Interesting use of color. In particular I like the children playing on the ocean rocks.
Magical Mystery Tour
I did this as an experiment with acrylics, was enjoying water color at the time, but, wanted to try something different using the bold color acrylics. This was done some time ago using this new medium. Since never went back the watercolor. It is best the view each panel while listening to the three versus of a Beatles tune ā€œLucy in the Skies with Diamondsā€. For those of you that have asked for this … it is different … enjoy

@Mak Olvik I was not expecting that response. Thanks. A little history, I wanted to try something abstract. Wanted to tell a musical picture story. I started with piano keyboards and different notes 1/16 1/8 1/4 and put sparkle eyes in them. With the music playing, again and again I started with different skies and sun movement. Kind of the sky speeding up and the notes slowing down. From there I just start put in whatever the music indicated. Was a lot of fun.

Thanks
Seascape.
Only my second painting so I’m an absolute beginner and will still be for a long time. Would therefore appreciate any feedback. I struggled with many things including mixing accurate colours and values to match the reference. Also struggled to keep the colour puddles contained to small areas on the glass palette as it was difficult to scrape the oil paint up from the surface of the glass with a palette knife and the paint kept spreading across a wider area as I tried to mix colours. So I was frustrated about several aspects but overall it was still a positive experience as at least I was painting!

You have done very well. Very bold brush work and colors, but done well, it expresses the moment. You’ve got guts, I’ll never show my first or second, not even my twentieth painting. Keep posting.

Now retired, I have the time to have fun creating art. Started many years ago with watercolor. But moved to acrylics which I now enjoy.
