Hey, so I’m the one that said I thought ORB was satire. First off, great live / convo. For some insight, I grew up in the suburbs in a predominantly White / Asian neighborhood. So my initial response to ORB was, “this is funny because this is kind of how some of the guys I grew up around act”(of course it was exaggerated in the song). I personally have never heard a black person use some of the terms used in the song except bro and brother. I guess due to my upbringing, I didn’t really consider it as appropriation initially because I didn’t view it as appropriation of black culture. But after listening to this conversation and learning where a lot of terms stem from, I realize I have take some accountability, because even if I felt it was satire of other cultures, it doesn’t make it right… I still kinda like the vibe of the song tho. No Good is the highlight for me, Take My Breath is my least favorite. Despite the album being below par, I can’t wait to see them perform it live.
@Andre Thomas To be honest, I was about to, then I punked out because I’m not so great with speaking, I get my points across better via writing. I’ll do my best to join another one if you end up doing another live.
Sorry this is long but I’m hopeful that they will come out with a deluxe or a part 2 album with much better material because I think Simon has to know this was not it.
@Andre Thomas Unfortunately none of them😔. I think 4 seasons had the strongest potential to be as good as the songs you mentioned, but like you said, it feels under produced. As much as I hate to say it, I think I would’ve loved a couple of the songs more if I were still in Elementary/middle school. Some of it sounds very pop Disney.
