Testing slipstraw
Hi, about a month ago, I tested making a slipstraw panel. I made a frame from leftover scrap wood, but the catch is that the framing was 2x3s and leftover plywood for the . I made the clay slip, mixed in the straw, and lightly packed it. After a few hours, I removed the plywood forms and left the panel to dry a couple of days. When I checked back, the frame looked good, but when I picked it up, the solid slipstraw mass fell out of the 2x3 form. This made me wonder a couple of things. Was the frame too thin being a 2x3? How does the slipstraw remain in place in between the framing when used as a wall structure? Perhaps I did not pack it tightly enough? I love slipstraw, and I never thought about this issue until it happened, but now it concerns me about applying it to my own scenario. I know people sometimes use bamboo or chicken wire to secure it a bit more, but are these necessary? I added the one "in progress" photo I took just when checking my progress.

One of my online students built this Cob House!
I've actually never shared these before, but one of my online students from a few years ago built her own beautiful cob house in Sri Lanka. She did an amazing job! What do you think?

so beautiful; so many minor details that are captivating. I love how the lime over the cob walls creates that smooth, rumbling texture.
Rammed Earth Shower Progress
Hey everyone! Apologies for things being so quiet here in the Skool lately. I'm in the busiest part of the year as I prepare for workshop season. It's always challenging to juggle the online work and the building work together. But I wanted to share what I've been working on in the background the past few weeks. The outdoor rammed earth shower is almost complete! There will be a few details I'll be adding later, but I'm just trying to get it functional for April's workshop campers. I'm thinking of doing a video or we can do a live presentation/Q&A on how I built this. What do you think? Comment below. Thanks!

Super cool!
How are you liking our Skool community?
How are you feeling about our new Skool Community here so far? How can it be improved, and what would you like more of? I want people to feel engaged in ideas and projects with eachother here. And as a reminder, you're welcome to post things here and share! Thanks!

Hey Alex, I really enjoy being able to access this group whenever, but I think operating on a continual enrollment style might be hard for most people to stay engaged. One thing you might consider is having some segmented terms - something like quarters at a college - but obviously the terms could be shorter or longer. I think setting up these terms would let people know that theres going to be some stuff going on during a specific period, then there might be a break, then another period. Of course, having the past resources continually available is a great thing to keep available. I also really like your idea of optional assignments! I really commend your work, Alex.
Building with Earth - Low Cost Building for the Future
New commentary video. What do you think of this video format?

I think this would be very valuable if you do film your workshops then do a post analysis (commentary) especially discussing the critical junctures and aspects of a particular part of the building process as well as the common failures. Showing these en vivo would probably help a lot of us who can't make it to a workshop have a more comprehensive understanding of what to look out for, and based on people's responses to specific areas of the workshop commentaries, you could make more in-depth content around popular needs.
