Rain
Living in Florida it likes to rain a lot. What do ya'll tell customers about the lens getting wet due to rain within a 24 hour period?

Most coatings are fine to get wet after about an hour. Not a car wash but regular water is usually fine. I usually only have a problem with rain like in the first 10 minutes of putting a coating on.

@Danny Down that really depends on the coding, they all react differently to those heat sources. I’m pretty sure that nothing will speed up the current Headlight Magic coating. It just needs time and air.
Polisher
Has anyone purchased this one ? Good or no good

Depends on what you need it for. The kimo is not a dual action it’s just a rotary so, it would probably only be good for polishing.

@Andrew Arencibia the batoca s4, the cheapest package.
First Dealership: Update
Hey guys, demo went good today, I ended up doing the Prius and the owner loved the result and gave me 2 more cars he wanted done immediately. Mercedes still had LOTS of the original clear coat which made it pretty tough and ended up having to go down to 220 grit dry. About 80 mins total. I think I could get it down to about 45 minutes if I used a drill attachment for the lower grits and then hand sanding 600+, anyone have any experience doing that? Do the deeper scratches from the low grits tend to come out easily or not? The owner said that he’d call me back for some more cars soon and we agreed to $70/car so thanks to Clayton and Andrew for hyping me up to be confident with my price, the resto’s turned out awesome🤘

The Prius came out better than expected! Nice
Found time to do one headlight on my personal vehicle
Before the sun went down quick! 07' Corolla using DIY items including TuffStuff, SprayAway, 320,600,1000,2000,3000 then Cerakote Headlight Step3. I might have sanded with the 320 too hard. Looks good from afar, but you can see slight horizontal scratches when looking closely. When do you decide to start with 320, 600, or 1000? Getting practice in before I offer to friends and family for more practice. I hope to get the hang of it soon! Collecting all the content I can to post on socials.

It’s good that you notice that in the beginning! You’re on your way to being a beast. Most ppl never realize how many scratches they leave behind, which are easily seen when the lights are on. Your car is the perfect practicing board because you can do it over and over TIL you get it perfect. I’ve done the headlights on my own at least 20 times minimum. That aside. Most Japanese cars that are as old as yours only need 1k, 2K, and 3k sanding. But I like to start with 600 just to make sure it’s a nice even surface. So 320 was overkill. I say do the lights again… start at 600 or 1k on the passenger side abs work up from there. Then go back to the driver side and start at 320 again do the job until there are no scratches. If you look closely, you should really be able to see them after you do the 3000 grit. Especially if you dry the whole light off and then wet it again and he left the scratches will be visible before you put the coating on. Doing that will teach you how to be perfect with your sanding.

@Sean Lee https://www.skool.com/headlightrestorationschool/2nd-restoration-2?p=2824ce05 On a job like this I’d probably start at 320. A very dry ashy light.
First dealership tomorrow
I drove past this dealership today during my main job, ended up meeting one of the owners and gave him a flyer and offered to count up his cars and come back tomorrow for a demo. There’s 10+ vehicles in bad shape and a few more just starting to peel so hopefully I can book the whole lot on the spot after the demo. Any tips for pricing and also for restoring the white Durango light? (looks like it’s been restored previously, terrible job though) Open to any and all suggestions, thanks in advance everybody! Also is it smart to do the red Prius for the demo or try with a nicer looking car?

I hate that you have two cars that aren’t the best. The dodge can look fine after restoration but may or may not be easy to do. It’s definitely been restored before and that old coating could melt like butter or new stuck like glue. I’d be weary of doing to The Prius s a demo because when I see a light look cloudy and white like that it almost always means somebody has used some “hack” on it in the past and it probably won’t be the as clear as new. It will probably get a lot clearer but won’t be the wow you’re looking for. I’d pick a different Japanese car as your first option.
