Home Focus For Babies - A Parent’s Guide to Healthy Breathing, Tongue & Jaw Development
PART 1 FOR BABIES (Early Oral Development & Foundations) Many of the patterns that influence how your child breathes, feeds, sleeps, and develops begin in the very early months of life. As a parent, you may notice: - Feeding challenges - Difficulty settling - Mouth breathing - Tension in the body - Or simply a sense that something isn’t quite right These early signs are important — but they are also an opportunity. Why This Stage Matters In babies, the tongue, lips, jaw, and nervous system are still developing and learning how to work together. This means: Small, gentle inputs can have a powerful influence on development By supporting your baby early, you are helping to shape: - How they feed and swallow - How they breathe - How their face and jaw develop - How their nervous system regulates A Connected System Feeding, breathing, posture, and movement are not separate. They are all part of the same system. If one area is under strain — such as: - A tight tongue - Tension through the neck or spine - Poor coordination of sucking or swallowing The body will begin to compensate This is why we take a whole-body, proactive approach. Your Role as a Parent A skilled practitioner can assess and guide — but what you do at home is just as important. These simple, gentle practices help your baby: - Develop strong oral muscles - Build coordination and awareness - Establish healthy breathing patterns - Reduce unnecessary tension and compensation What We Are Aiming For Over time, we want your baby to develop: - A tongue that moves freely and lifts well - Lips that can gently close and seal - Coordinated sucking, swallowing, and breathing - Calm, nasal breathing patterns - Balanced movement and posture This is about: - Awareness - Consistency By supporting these foundations early: Many common challenges can be reduced or prevented altogether You are not just helping your baby in the moment — You are shaping how they grow, breathe, and function long-term.

Fantastic developmental nudge points for me to learn and monitor especially in solids journey 🙌
Meat Broth and Methylation Results
Hey everyone, Major big wins this past week! Daphne is 6 months so I’ve officially started making oxtail bone broth and following Which Foods When sequence. The chiropractor has noticed more room in the roof of her mouth when adjusting. I have also got my Methylation results back: MTHFR Gene Mutation C677T and A1298C - both heterozygous and associated with increased risk of thromboembolism. Vitamin B12 (378 nmol/L), Serum Folate (54.4 nmol/L), Homocysteine (12.5umol/L). Would methylated B complex tablets be a good start? Overall feeling so relieved and grateful to prioritise the health of me and my family 💕

Our Breastfeeding Story
Hi everyone, my baby is now 10 months old - time truly flies! When he was first born, he didn't latch even though I felt like we tried to do everything right. My baby boy was placed on my chest for skin to skin for three uninterrupted hours, but he never went to latch. We struggled with feeding in those early days and saw multiple lactation consultants both in hospital and once we were home. Feeding was incredibly painful. At one of my private midwife appointments we were told he had an upper lip tie and that it would likely get worse and that he would struggle to ever feed properly or gain weight. I won't lie hearing this really stressed us. Part of me wondered, what if they were right? Without anyone properly assessing the inside of his mouth, we were given a number to have his upper lip lasered and told that this woukd fix everything. Instead my husband and I continued taking him to Simon and we worked gently on his body tension (caused from the way he came out of the birth canal) and supporting him to latch more effectively. Interestingly Simon was never concerned about his upper lip and after learning more about this, what my son had began to seem very normal. As weeks went on, we began to learn more about one another and I stopped pressuring myself and my baby to feed in a cetain way or hold a certain position. When I let go of these expectations, he latched and he figured it out on his own. No cutting, no lasering just time and support. Now ten months later and my baby boy is thriving and we're pretty much breastfeeding pros 🤍

Pre-Eclampsia Medication
Hey everyone, I feel so informed and empowered with your content about methylation! I have already been told from my obstetrician and midwife to take aspirin and calcium tablets for my next pregnancy to prevent pre eclampsia. It would be interesting to gauge your thoughts and hopefully help other mummas!

@Jennifer Barham-Floreani Hi Jen, Appreciate all the clarification and info. I am so grateful to find this community and the concept of methylation - I remember feeling that my body failed when I had a small baby and pre-eclampsia. From looking at my blood work, I have not been tested for my B12, folate or homocysteine levels 😭 during my pregnancy. Luckily I was taking a prenatal with methyl folate as opposed to folic acid. I took a blood test to ascertain all my vitamins back in 2023. All it said was normal B12 level but the Active B12 is in the low normal range. In context though, I fell pregnant 2 months after taking the contraceptive pill for 8 years. ❤️
