This week we got into a Q&A on MONETIZATION + BRAND DEALS! Aka all the behind-the-scenes stuff that actually makes you money. Big reality check: being good at content ≠ being good at monetization. Getting paid is a whole separate skill. You need to know how to negotiate, spot red flags (hi “use in perpetuity” 🚩), and actually value your time. We also walked through real examples from everyone — offers, negotiations, content strategies, and what I would do in each situation — so you can see how this actually plays out IRL. We talked a lot about how engagement > follower count. There are creators with smaller audiences making way more money simply because their audience is locked in. Brands care about results, not vanity metrics. We also got into how to actually get deals coming in. You don’t have to just sit around and wait — tagging brands, getting on PR lists, and showing love to brands you already use can turn into paid opportunities later. Think pipeline, not instant gratification. On the money side, I gave y’all the golden rules: - Ask for their budget first (always!!) - Charge for usage rights if they want to reuse your content - Don’t count free product as payment unless you’d genuinely buy it yourself - And please for the love of god do not accept 30 deliverables for $450 😭 Overall vibe: you are a business, not just a creator.
