Hello all!
Okay, I want to bring some life back into this community 💛 I created this group because I know how isolating this industry can feel — especially when you're overwhelmed, burnt out, or questioning whether you can keep doing this long-term. I've been there. And one of the biggest things I've learned is that we don't need to figure everything out alone. So I want to hear from you guys 👇 What is the ONE thing about working in the pet industry that is draining you the most right now?

Learning to groom help
Hello my name is Jessica and ive been a bather for about 4 years and only now learning full grooms, I can do pre clips and most parts of the groom but struggle wirh face and sanitary a little, anyway I was wondering how everyone deals with the aggresive or really difficult dogs without getting really emotional from over stimulation or really angry, its hard to stay calm sometimes and just wanted some advice :)

I usually just rotate around my difficult dogs, for example I do one half at a time, left neck-back, shoulder and thigh all shaved by then my blade gets hot so I’ll swap to my 10 and do my sani and pads, if it’s fighting over the paws I’ll get through on that, then work on brushing out the tail or working on the head. So I try to give the break while also being productive and trying to at least do something. But also sometimes you just need to take the break and just give the baby a lil love and pets, sometimes I’ll even offer water to the pup if they’re not panting too hard (if the dog has shovel tongue DO NOT give it water or you risk bloat)
Satisfying deshed 😩
Yall so I have this Shiba who’s name is fox, and usually he gives me hell and bites over his flank and his nails but today he was leaning into the furminator and let me dremel one paw by myself and didn’t fight when I held him for my coworker to do his nails!! Great progress with my boy today 🥺

Out of standard grooms?
I was just curious on if you guys do out of standard grooms and what breeds. Because on Saturday I did a lab shave down and I actually have 2 labs who I shave, one with a 10 one with a 7. I also do Pom shaves either a andis 3 3/4 or comb blades, even Aussie shave downs! I’ve even done clean feet on a shihtzu before! At my shop we just do what the parent asks, we try our best to inform parents especially on our double coated shave downs but if they’re okay with the risk we’ll still go the groom! I’m curious to see if you guys also do these out of standard grooms or if you refuse service?

@McKenzie McDougal we have a couple cavaliers that we shave, I actually have an Aussilier (Aussie x cavalier) and he looks like a giant cavalier who gets a 5 blade!
Carrer Opinion!
I have been working in a corporate grooming salon making $18 an hour, while doing 3-4 grooms a day and 7 baths. I got burnt out recently and chose to interview somewhere new today, I am curious on any opinion about this new work environment because I am nervous. I would be working as an independent contractor and doing my own taxes/building my own clientele. I have never been a part of something like this, the shop is also $1000 monthly to use their table and tub, yet making 100% of everything I do. I desperately want to move on from my current shop, I am not sure if this is a good choice, I am excited about it.

As an independent contractor I’d say it’s def easier to prevent burn out especially if you’re in control of your scheduling! My shop doesn’t make me pay rent but I only make 50% of sales and 100% of my tips. And with that I’ve been able to pay for my apartment on my own. But my only advice with independent contracting is def set a budget for yourself and stick to it! You got this, do whatever is best for you <3
