Why most creative Skool groups don’t grow (even when the content is good)!
I’ve been building a watercolor community on Skool, and something became really clear to me: A lot of creative groups stall out... Not because for lack of good content, but because of a lack of structure. And structure can be kind of the opposite of creativity, right? But in this case, a little structure goes a long way. 🤔 Believe me, I had this problem too!! I just thought it wasn't one of those magnetic people who could attract the right audience fast enough for me to turn this into a thriving income. But guess what… I was wrong! As soon as I came on Skool AND learned how to create a group that was ready to grow, everything changed for me. 🤩 If people join your group, but they don’t stay engaged, maybe: - THE PROMISE IS TOO VAGUE: Get more detailed about how you can help your audience with what THEY are struggling with, while pairing that with what YOU'RE good at. - YOU'RE NOT VISIBLE ENOUGH: Showing up once a week or even once a month is not enough to keep people engaged. It takes a bit of work, but I post almost every day to set the expectation and show my students I'm there for them, plus I comment on my member posts daily. The more I post, the more my members post, and people feel valued when you respond to them soober rather than later! • NO CLEAR PATH TO FOLLOW: Make sure you tell your members where to find things, and what your classes in tutorials will do for them often. Have it in your START HERE section, but also post about it. Members are more often in the community than in the classroom after all. Tell beginners where to start as opposed to intermediate or advanced students. Share the Classroom schedules with them often, and give them a roadmap so they don't have to guess where to go next. So what actually started working for me was down to these three things. I'll be talking about a lot more in my Built To Be Seen Summit talk next week. AND I'm giving you a free workbook to help you grow your Skool group that you won't want to miss. I'll see you there!!! 😃👌

This is such an important topic for creative souls, and I would even add one more thing, and that is don't be shy of "documenting your experience and your path to getting to your results" as a community owner. We often think that making mistakes shouldn't be visible to our members or that we need to show up perfect, but my experience from a few years ago is that exactly the opposite is true.

Custom GPTs - Still valuable?
I am really curious to know - how are you all feeling about custom GPTs? AI has changed a lot since they first came out and I'm wondering if it's time to retire the trainings I have around building them. Would love to know how many of you use them and still find them valuable!

I've retired my GPTs a bit over 1.5 years ago. But only because I created my own software, and now my members create their own prompts (or GPTs) inside of the software so they can use them throughout every aspect of the software and with any LLM. Like chatting with the assistant or chatting in their projects or using them in our in-house business prompts and so on.
What’s your plan for retirement?
I’m asking this seriously. About eight years ago I got divorced. My daughters eventually grew up and moved out. And suddenly I was an empty nester figuring out life again. What I didn’t expect was that the internet would become my retirement plan. Today I run Skool communities and generate about $10K–$15K a month in recurring revenue. And the best part is that I can work from anywhere in the world. That wasn’t the plan when I was working in corporate. But it became possible because I started building online. And here’s something I’ve been thinking about lately for many of you in this community… If you're here learning about AI, online business, and digital opportunities, have you considered building your own Skool community? Not because you need another project. But because it could become a second income stream for your future. Maybe it’s: • A community teaching one AI tool you’ve mastered • A space where you share prompts and workflows • A niche AI community for your industry • A Skool operator service helping other hosts run their communities • A VA pivot into Skool community management It doesn’t have to replace your income. But imagine what $1K–$2K a month in recurring revenue could do for your future. This is how many people quietly start building their retirement income online. So I’m curious: Have you ever considered opening your own Skool community? Or are you here mainly to learn AI skills? I’d love to hear where everyone’s at. 👇

I don't think I would want to retire if I continue to do what I love to do and spend my time the way it makes me happy. I have been full-time self-employed since 10 years and most days did not feel like work. For me it is more a question what do I do, after kids, when I maybe become a grandma, be there for my parents when they grow old.

@Brenda Rigney I think having the choice to do as you want and act as you wish is the ultimate freedom. I love the idea of outsourcing as well, so I can continue to create fun things. So when I'm 70 I like to choose but I maybe we do this already anyway by running our businesses :-)
