#1 Mistake I See Businesses Make in GovCon
Many businesses lose contracts before their proposal is even read—usually due to incomplete compliance or missing documentation. ✅ Tip: Always double-check your SAM registration and NAICS codes before submitting. Small errors = big lost opportunities. Question for the group: Have you ever lost a bid because of a small oversight? How did you handle it?

@Aditya Bisht Exactly. Those small misses compound quickly, and by the time they surface, it’s usually too late to fix them without major rework. An upfront checklist paired with a disciplined requirements read removes a lot of unnecessary risk early on. I’ve found that aligning that checklist with evaluation criteria from day one is what really tightens outcomes. Happy to compare notes or walk through how I structure that if it’s helpful.

@Aditya Bisht Totally agree. That alignment is where bids really start to tighten up. When the checklist mirrors how evaluators are actually scoring, it becomes much easier to prioritize effort and avoid last-minute surprises. I’ve seen that approach make a noticeable difference in both efficiency and confidence going into submission. Happy to compare how you’re setting that up or walk through an example if it’s useful.
Hello from a GovCon Consultant 👋
Hi everyone! I’m Katie, a government contracts consultant helping businesses win federal, state, and local contracts efficiently. I specialize in navigating RFPs, SAM registration, and set-asides for small businesses. I’m curious, what’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced when trying to land a government contract? Let’s share ideas and strategies!

@Alessia Russo Thank you for the warm welcome! You’re calling out one of the most important success factors in GovCon. Most compliance issues don’t show up at submission, they start much earlier, when requirements are interpreted or prioritized incorrectly. What’s helped teams I’ve worked with is breaking compliance down immediately after release and validating it before any writing begins. It removes a lot of downstream risk. I’m glad to exchange insights here, and if you ever want to compare approaches or sanity-check requirements, feel free to reach out.

@Hicham Char You’re not wrong at all , that catch-22 is one of the biggest barriers to entry in GovCon. The good news is agencies aren’t only looking for government past performance; they’re looking for relevant performance and risk reduction. I’ve seen first-time winners break through by reframing strong commercial or subcontracting experience and targeting the right entry-point opportunities where evaluators expect newer primes. It’s less about having any past performance and more about positioning the right kind. Happy to exchange notes or walk through what’s worked if you ever want to unpack that
