I would add length of sit and accessibility to public transportation (aka how remote is the sit and do you need a car?) . These answers have changed for me depending on time of year and current needs. For example, we picked a two month, two cat sit in Scotland during the winter so we could have some cozy time by the fire, but also so that we would stay inside and get paperwork done like taxes and financial things that needed our attention and we never want to do when it’s beautiful and sunny and there’s a dog to walk outside!

Hi Jennifer. No problem! My husband and I left the US a year ago and have been traveling in Europe (he has an EU Passport). We started off dog sitting for friends in Portugal- they mentioned Trusted Housesitters, we joined and now have 26 weeks of pet sitting under our belts. Right now we are sitting for Loui, a super cute but not fully trained one year old golden lab/retriever mix in Cyprus - we will be here six weeks total and then go to Greece for a few pet-free weeks of play before our next month-long sit in Ireland. We’re really enjoying the pet sitting lifestyle, intermixed with some time to ourselves. So far we’ve landed the majority of sits we’ve applied for I think because we have that “middle aged/retired/reaoonsible” vibe, but also we interview well and connect with people easily (being in sales my whole life helps too, I’m sure). I’ve basically picked sits in places I’ve wanted to visit, longer than two weeks and no more than two dogs and/or three cats. I also thoroughly read the reviews and have learned to take a better look at the photos of the home and ask questions, as we’re staying there for awhile!
