📢 Big Announcement for the Walkys Community…
Something really exciting is happening behind the scenes at Walkys, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Over the past few months we’ve been building, refining, and dreaming about how we can make this community even more valuable for every dog owner here. We’re getting close, and in August we’ll be making a big announcement that we think you’re going to love. Before we lock everything in, we’d love your help. 💬 If we were to run a live community call, what day and time works best for you? Drop your answer in the comments so we can make it as accessible as possible for everyone. 🎁 We’ll also be giving away some awesome prizes during the live and, as always, you’ll walk away with plenty of free training, education, and practical advice you can start using with your dog straight away. We’re genuinely excited about where this community is heading, and we’re so grateful you’re on the journey with us. See you in the comments! 👇🐾

😆 I’d say any time from 4pm onwards for the second week of August
Calmer walks
Our walks have improved so much. Bear is starting to understand that having a loose leash is better than a tight one. I have been rewarding him with high value treats almost everytime he engages with me after he has had a distraction. I have a question.....is there such thing as rewarding him too much??? I don't want to over reward....if that's a thing. In these videos I haven't rewarded him, because I couldn't work out how to reward him while having the phone in my hand lol

My Beautiful little girl Ruby. Ruby is a 7yr old JRT and my personal Service dog. She found me when she was just under 1yr and we got straight to it! We make a lovely team, and this video is all about giving her what she needs to help me when I need her. Genetic Fulfilment in Action 🐾 Every dog was bred for a purpose, and when we tap into those natural instincts, we create happier, calmer, and more fulfilled dogs. Ruby is a Jack Russell Terrier, a breed developed to hunt, chase, grab, and problem solve. Rather than trying to suppress those instincts, we give them a healthy outlet. Using a flirt pole, satisfies her chase drive. Tug, fulfils her desire to grab and possess. Ball work channels her prey drive and energy. While obedience, teaches her how to switch on, switch off, and work as a team. When we meet a dog's genetic needs, we don't just tire them out—we fulfil them. A fulfilled dog is often easier to live with, more focused, and less likely to seek out unwanted ways to entertain themselves. 💚Don't fight genetics... fulfil them.🐶💚

Training Tips - Rear end awareness (free shaping)
Missed the live session? Here's the replay 👇 This one's a fun game you can start playing with your pup today. All you need is an upturned bucket and a handful of treats. On the surface it's a simple trick: front paws up on the bucket. But underneath, you're building three things at once: rear-end awareness (most dogs genuinely don't know where their back legs are!), confidence with their own body and new objects, and real engagement with you. Your dog learns to think, offer behaviours, and work with you instead of just following a treat around. And here's the bonus: once your dog can steer their own back end, this little bucket game becomes the foundation for a beautiful heel. You get a dog that knows how to line themselves up beside you instead of being dragged into position. In the replay I walk you through: - Getting those front paws up (and making the bucket the best game in the house) - The first pivot steps, and the "money moment" to watch for - How the game grows into heel position over time It's only a few minutes a day, it works indoors on a rainy arvo, and dogs absolutely love it. Your challenge this week: 2–3 three-minute sessions a day for the next 7 days. Film your progress and chuck it up here in the community, day 1 wobbles and all! Cheer each other on, share what's working, help each other troubleshoot. Let's see how far these pups come in a week 🐾🪣 Can't wait to see your videos! 🎉

@Jennifer Mcfarlane Thank you ☺️! Yes Bear is very calm & gentle inside our home, it is the outside world that terrifies her easily 🥴

@Jennifer Mcfarlane I so identify! Bear will be 4 soon but we got her at 2.5 yrs old & I never imagined a dog would be worried about so many things outside & i’d love for her to just enjoy it. Walkys has been the best help. They just get it. Bear & I are definitely a work in progress too….. ☺️
Maizie recall practice
I'm usually not keen on letting Maizie free because when out & about recall can definitely be hit & miss especially around distractions like birds, kids, dogs etc. So today because I felt it was very safe & low distractions I finally let go of the 10m lead to actually really test Maizie's recall & she did really well. She's not really a treat eater on walks (I think to thirsty & puffed probably) so I do keep her ball in my pocket in case I have to give it a squeeze/sqeak to ensure she'll come back if calling her doesn't actually work. Lol😂 Any tips or advice trainers if you can see is needed from the videos please let me know. Last video is when we first got there & her nose barely leaves the ground. She's sooo scent driven & just looooooves this freedom & is so happy. 💜😊
