WHAT DID THE BLOOD OF CHRIST ACCOMPLISH? We speak often of the blood of Christ. But what does the scripture say his blood accomplished? Do not take every verse concerning the blood and make it say the same thing. Let each passage say exactly what it says. The scripture speaks of: REMISSION FORGIVENESS REDEMPTION PROPITIATION JUSTIFICATION PEACE RECONCILIATION BEING MADE NIGH CLEANSING PURGING SANCTIFICATION PURCHASE One blood. One offering. But the scripture tells us plainly what was accomplished by it. Let us read the words. 1. HIS BLOOD WAS SHED FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS Matthew 26:28 (KJV) “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Christ said his blood was: “shed for many for the remission of sins.” Now compare: Hebrews 9:22 (KJV) “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” The verse does not say: Without shedding of blood is no redemption. It does not say: Without shedding of blood is no justification. It says: “WITHOUT SHEDDING OF BLOOD IS NO REMISSION.” Keep the word where the scripture puts it. 2. HIS BLOOD IS SET FORTH IN PROPITIATION Romans 3:24-25 (KJV) “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;” Look at the words in only two verses: JUSTIFIED REDEMPTION PROPITIATION FAITH IN HIS BLOOD REMISSION Why should we take all of those words and make them one word? Paul did not. Read what is written. 3. THROUGH HIS BLOOD WE HAVE REDEMPTION Ephesians 1:7 (KJV) “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” What do we have through his blood? REDEMPTION. And what does the verse also name? “THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.” Now read it again in Colossians:

Tonight we are going to stay with the words that are written. We are not going to change “of” into “in.” We are not going to change “in” into “of.” We are not going to remove believing from passages that speak of believing. And we are not going to remove “the faith of Jesus Christ” from passages where those words are written. Paul gave Timothy this instruction: 2 Timothy 1:13-14 (KJV) 13 “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.” And Titus says: Titus 2:7-8 (KJV) 7 “In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.” That is how we want to approach this study. Hold fast the form of sound words. Use sound speech that cannot be condemned. Read what is written. Scripture gives us all of these expressions: “the faith of God.” “the faith of Jesus Christ.” “the faith of Christ.” “the faith of the Son of God.” “the faith of him.” “faith in Christ Jesus.” “we have believed in Jesus Christ.” “them that believe.” “the mystery of the faith.” “faith and love.” “faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.” So tonight we are not choosing which expressions we prefer. We are asking: WHAT IS WRITTEN? If scripture uses all of these words, then all of them deserve to remain where they are written. Let the scripture speak. ⸻ OPENING QUESTIONS Before we begin, let us put several questions before everyone. 1. Does scripture say that men believe in Jesus Christ? Yes. 2. Does scripture also say “the faith of Jesus Christ”? Yes. 3. Why does Galatians 2:16 contain “the faith of Jesus Christ” and “we have believed in Jesus Christ” in the same verse? 4. Why does Romans 3:22 say “faith of Jesus Christ” and then “them that believe”?

CONSIDER WHAT I SAY Before Paul tells Timothy to “rightly divide the word of truth” in verse 15, look carefully at what he tells him first. 2 Timothy 2:1-7 (KJV) “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.” There is an order here worth slowing down and reading. Paul begins: “Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” Then: “The things that thou hast heard of me…” Timothy was not told to invent something new, improve the message, build his own system, or add his own wisdom to what he had received. Paul tells him to take “the things that thou hast heard of me” and commit “the same” to faithful men. Not something similar. Not man’s traditions added to it. “THE SAME.” And notice what kind of men Paul says these things should be committed unto: “faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” Faithfulness matters. Paul had already written: 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 (KJV) “Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” A steward does not have liberty to change what has been entrusted to him. Timothy received something, and he was commanded to commit the same to faithful men who could teach others also. Then Paul turns to what that faithfulness will require. “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” Faithfulness was never presented as a promise that everything would be comfortable. Timothy was told to endure hardness.

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 (KJV) 1 “And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching [was] not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.“ 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV) 1 “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” Ephesians 1:12-14 (KJV) 12 “That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” 2 Corinthians 13:8 (KJV) “For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.“ 2 Corinthians 9:15 (KJV) “Thanks [be] unto God for his unspeakable gift.“
