What would you tell little YOU? ๐Ÿ˜˜
Not what you'd change. Not what you'd do differently. Simply what you wish they had known. - What did younger you need to hear about love, belonging or worth? - What words would have helped them feel safer, more understood or more confident in who they were becoming? - What did younger you fear most, and what reassurance would you offer them now? - What are three things you wish someone had told you consistently as a child? - What would you tell younger you about who they would grow into? And perhaps the most important question: ๐Ÿ˜˜ How can you give yourself today what you needed then? I love prompts like this because they remind us that the goal isn't to change the past. It's to bring more understanding to the present. This prompt comes from our free June Journaling Challenge inside Plant Positive (also free!) We're journaling together all month with daily prompts, reflection and encouragement. No catch up required and it's never too late to join. ๐Ÿ’š

I would tell little Kate, she would grow into a strong, confident woman relentlessly focused on following her heart and that the things that make her different? Are actually her strengths.
๐Ÿ•๐ŸŒฑ The Secret Isn't Willpower. It's Strategy.
I ate many of my favourite things last weekend... and it was glorious! Pizza, rolls and avo, pasta, baked smashed potatoes. Zero guilt. Zero feeling over-full. Zero wasted energy wondering: "Can I get away with this?" As I list them, it strikes me that this is surprisingly similar to how I ate in my processed-carb, low-nutritional-value twenties... yet WITHOUT (almost all) the processed carbs. ๐Ÿ˜… I feel very strongly that almost anything can be upgraded to align with your health goals. And the things you still want to enjoy exactly as they are? (bread for me) They can absolutely fit into an eating routine that supports weight release, maintenance, strength, energy, values, or whatever YOUR goal happens to be. The strategy that works for me: โœ… One: Food prep multiple versatile components so you have easy go-to meals you love with minimal effort. I favour the 4 Pillars (Fibrous veg or salad | Plant protein | Starchy veg or grain | Dairy-free sauce or dressing), however start with whatever feels right for you. Even one huge bowl of undressed salad / veg and a sauce to make it sexy ๐Ÿ˜‰ is a great start. ๐Ÿ’š Mindset shift: Instead of relying on willpower, you create an environment where healthy choices feel easy, abundant, and genuinely satisfying. โœ… Two: Have a low-effort go-to for each of your main meals. Maybe you eat them on repeat (like my edamame + hemp seeds breakfast Monday-Friday) or my tofu salad 5x a week. Or maybe they're simply your little saviour when life gets unexpectedly busy. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ A nourish bowl (beans, grains, greens) is an easy lunch option and a tray bake is low fuss for dinner. ๐Ÿ’š Mindset shift: You stop negotiating with yourself every time you're hungry. The decision is already made, which frees up energy for more important things. โœ… Three: Build reliable treats into your week so you never feel restricted and you're not aiming for "perfect." I want to LOVE every meal... however some are just a little more exciting, right? ๐Ÿ˜… For me that's a generous serve of bread + avo on Saturday and Sunday.

The โ€œE.A.S.Y.โ€ Question I Need To Ask More Often!
A quote I LOVE the sound ofโ€ฆ and still need reminding to actually live ๐Ÿ˜… โ€œAsk yourself, โ€˜What if it were easy?โ€™ Then go ahead and do that.โ€ Tim Ferriss So naturallyโ€ฆ I made an acronym ๐Ÿ‘€ ๐Ÿ’š E.A.S.Y. โœจ ENJOYABLE Sometimes we accidentally make healthy habits feel harder by focusing on everything we wonโ€™t enjoy. โ€œWhat if this was easy?โ€ might look like: ๐Ÿฅ” keeping meals simple ๐ŸŒฎ repeating favourite recipes ๐ŸŽง listening to a podcast while food prepping โ˜€๏ธ walking outside instead of forcing yourself onto cardio machines you hate Healthy doesnโ€™t need to feel miserable to โ€œcount.โ€ โšก AUTOMATIC You know what makes things feel REALLY hard? Overthinking them for three hours before doing nothing ๐Ÿ˜… โ€œWhat if this was easy?โ€ might look like: ๐Ÿ‘‰ immediately chopping vegetables after groceries ๐Ÿ‘‰ setting a pot of lentils on to cook while making breakfast ๐Ÿ‘‰ putting workout clothes on before motivation arrives ๐Ÿ‘‰ scheduling the thing instead of mentally wrestling it daily Tiny automatic actions save enormous mental energy. ๐ŸŒฑ SUSTAINABLE Setting the bar too high can secretly become procrastination and perfectionism. โ€œWhat if this was easy?โ€ might look like: ๐Ÿ’ช a 15-minute workout ๐Ÿฅ— one EASY tray-bake meal to have on repeat this week ๐Ÿ“น one imperfect video instead of waiting to become confident first ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ consistency over intensity The best routine is rarely the most impressive one. Itโ€™s the one youโ€™ll actually keep doing. ๐Ÿซถ YOUR BEST INTERESTS Some things feel easy nowโ€ฆ yet become heavy later. Future-you matters too. โ€œWhat if this was easy long-term?โ€ might look like: ๐ŸŒˆ keeping healthy food visible and ready ๐Ÿ˜ด protecting sleep ๐Ÿ’š choosing habits that support your energy instead of draining it ๐Ÿฅ™ learning a few EASY healthy meals that make eating food that loves your body back feel realistic instead of overwhelming The older I get, the more I think โ€œeasyโ€ is underrated. Not because life should be effortless. Because unnecessary struggle is exhausting ๐Ÿ˜… I'd love to know: Where could you make life 1% easier this week?

Do you have a fasting strategy? How about a joy strategy?
I was grateful and blessed to spend the day yesterday with a cousin I hadnโ€™t seen in over two years. At one point, she asked me what my fasting strategy is, how much I fast every day. I said something likeโ€ฆit varies day to day. I hadnโ€™t really thought about what my fasting strategy is right now. When I started fasting, I had all sorts of plans and strategies. At first, it was 16:8 that I tried. 16:8 helped me curb nighttime binges and balance my blood sugar. Then, I experimented with 18:6. I extended my fasts to 24 hours, 36, and eventually 48. At some point, I got into a pattern of doing two fasts a week of 42 hours, doing one feasting day with 3 meals or more, and the rest of the time doing 16:8, or something like that. Every 3 months, I would do a 3-5 day fast to get into deeper autophagy. This pattern was ReALLY effective for helping me let go of over 70 pounds of excess weight. Most recently though, my pattern is โ€œI do what I feel like.โ€ The technical term for it is IDWIFL :oP Itโ€™s been working pretty well for me. I strive for doing at least one fast of 36-42 hours per week, but it doesnโ€™t always happen. Last week, I had 3 days of one meal a day, and one 36 hour fast. This week, Iโ€™ve had 3 days of 3 meals a day. For my birthday in the beginning of May, I did a 5 day fast to gift myself stem cells. Then, I parent chaperoned a trip to Catalina Island and didnโ€™t fast at all for a week. Well ok, I fasted once for 18 hours, but that was it. If I find myself feasting a lot, I make it a point to take more pauses in between eating and lean into fasting. If I find myself fasting a lot, I recognize itโ€™s time to feast and throw in a day or two of feasting. I donโ€™t stress about it at all, just strive for having some sort of balance between fasting and feasting. And it works for me :) Whatโ€™s your fasting strategy? Do you have one? How about a JOY strategy? Iโ€™ll share about my joy strategy in the comments.

@Vasi Smith, โ€œI do what I feel likeโ€ sounds like you're in a really good place with it. No pressure, all trust. ๐Ÿ’š I'm like that with food these days. Rough guidelines, however I trust my body knows. With fasting, I'm still on Circadian Fasting. 12 hours from dinner to breakfast. Any more would feel tough - maybe in the future, however I figure don't mess with what's not broken. I certainly do not want to lose weight and my body is very hungry at 12 hours. I LOVE the fact that my mind no longer wastes energy on thoughts of "should I snack on this?" after dinner! ๐Ÿ˜‚
