⭐️ Author Scams and Spam Messages
Quick heads-up for everyone as you move closer to launch or start marketing your books more actively. We’re seeing an increase in scams targeting authors, especially around book clubs, reviews, and marketing offers. These often look legitimate at first, so a little awareness goes a long way. Common red flags to watch for: 🚩 Book clubs or “reader groups” that cold-message you and require a fee, promise guaranteed reviews, or claim limited spots. 🚩 Marketing offers that promise fast results, bestseller status, or huge exposure with vague details on how they’ll deliver. 🚩 Messages impersonating platforms, influencers, authors, or assistants using lookalike names or emails. Some additional things we’ve noticed: a number of these scammers are using AI tools to pull book titles, descriptions, or author bios and then crafting very personalized, flattering messages. One subtle giveaway is unnatural formatting, like random bolding or emphasis in places a real person typically wouldn’t use it. If someone reaches out unsolicited, asks for money, guarantees outcomes, or creates urgency, pause. Do your research. Ask questions. To help keep this community safe and welcoming, please feel free to reach out or flag any suspicious posts, DMs, or replies you see. If you’re ever unsure about an offer, asking is always okay, as protecting your work and your wallet is worth it.
Hi!
Hello! I've been on here for a few months. I just wanted to greet everyone for the first time.

Hi Atiba! What are you working on?
Author reviews for book cover
I have my advanced reader copy of my book and have started to share with readers to get some people ready for Amazon reviews at the time of book launch. I also know an author who I think would be a well-aligned thought-leader with the topic in my book. Is there value in asking her to read my book and offer a testimonial for the cover? Is there a particular etiquette or way of approaching this? Would love any perspective from others or videos from the @Book Launchers Team. Thank you!!

Laura, this is a great question. Yes, there can absolutely be value in asking a well-aligned author or thought leader for an endorsement, especially when the connection makes sense for your ideal reader. I’d suggest reaching out in a genuine, low pressure way. Let them know why you admire their work and why your book feels aligned with their message or audience. Framing it as an invitation rather than an expectation goes a long way, and it’s always helpful to acknowledge that you completely understand if timing or bandwidth makes it a no. Question about long-tail keywords in subtitle
I have a book title that has a very relevant keyword in the main title with a subtitle that is not very relevant. To that I added a relevant long-tail keyword. My question: For the actual book cover, should I include that long-tail or just the title and subtitle?

For the cover, you will certainly want to include the main title and subtitle. Amazon is a stickler for including subtitles on the cover if you wanted to have one on the listing.

@Jon Peters Thanks for clarifying! So if you were wanting to have the "To Let Go of Overthinking and Relationship Anxiety!" in the subtitle field as a long keyword, then yes, it most likely will need to be on the cover. If you were going to add that extra keyword phrase in the description, I think you should be okay to leave it off the cover. Amazon does have more information on their website: https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201097560
Spam or not?
This appears to be dodgy to me, so I have not responded to their DM to me. But they are stating NFAL Has anyone else received these, or am I just the lucky one here?
