"It's been 84 years..."
😅At least that's what its' felt like this week and why I haven't been keeping up with my posting! This week has flown by as my husband and I prepare for the local homeschool convention. There are a lot of moving parts in our lives at the moment and trying to prioritize has been quite the task. Our co-op has not yet finished for the summer, we have some career shifting for both myself and my husband that we're trying to navigate, and we'll be speaking at this upcoming convention on navigating homeschool life while investing and prioritizing your marriage. That is our primary focus this coming week, but we've also been asked to speak on a panel for the Black Outreach reception. As the homeschooling community is beginning to grow in the Black and Brown communities, this convention is hosting outreach programs to help these families get connected and gain support and encouragement. As far as my last post, I asked what you all wanted to see and you answered! I'll begin to fill you in on this journey piece by piece. Sometimes it feels as if this dream started 84 years ago as well 👩‍🦳. In reality, it was only about a year and a half ago. But the way that it has been pressing on my heart makes me think about it day and night. Imagine waking up from a dream and seeing a vision so clearly, it was as if you were standing in that very place. That's what happened to me. I envisioned myself walking through the physical space of Home Sweet Homeschool RVA. I could see the families, hear the murmur of voices, feel the warmth of the community. I jolted awake and could feel the presence of the Lord, allowing me to see this vision and know that His hand is the on this space. As I continue to build relationships, learn what it takes to find and design the space, and how to write grants and get financing, I'll take you all along for the journey. I'll throw in some personal stories of how I got here and some homeschool tips along the way. Let's go on this adventure to build Home Sweet Homeschool RVA together, a place where all homeschool families can gather together to connect, learn and grow.

Phew that does sounds like you have a lot going on all at the same time, but also so exciting and like God has a real mission for you and your husband. I love seeing couples working together for God's kingdom! And even more important, making sure that ministry doesn't take over family and marriage. I believe God will give you both the strength you need to complete the work ahead. I pray He continues to guide you both and that you both walk in obedience and alignment with His will. I look forward to hearing more of your journey!

We are building this community together! I'm using this platform as kind of a behind the scenes and global community as I connect with other homeschool families. In the forefront, I've been trying to connect in-person with local community groups to see what the needs are of our local homeschool community. Since this is more of a global arena, what are some things you'd like to see on this page next? ✨Keep sharing my random homeschool thoughts as a way to get to know each other a little more ✨Talk a little more about the dream and vision of Home Sweet Homeschool RVA ✨Share the behind the scenes of what building a homeschool business looks like ✨Homeschool tips and encouragement You all let me know and please feel free to share this community with your friends! My goal is to have at least 30 members by the end of the summer. 😎 Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!

Wisdom and Discernment.... 🤔
Have you ever encountered something that seemed soooo good on paper, but the more you pray about it, the more you feel uneasy about it? I'm going through that right now. As I'm learning and growing this business and brand, I want to be sure that I am following the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Without disclosing too much, there have been a few opportunities that look amazing on paper, but when I pray about it, there's an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Something that doesn’t seem to add up. For the last eight years, there have been three things our pastor has prophesied over our church: 1. Do more with less 2. Don't circumvent the process 3. If you do those, you'll go further faster I feel like, in this situation, I'd be circumventing the process. It could put me on a path to potentially zoom forward, BUT at what cost down the line? How have you handled situations like this where you really want to say yes and explore the options in front of you, but deep down, you know there's something not quite right? Although, it does remind me of the lyrics to a song, "One thing I know, one thing I've found....God will work it out." 🙏🏾

Oh my days, this was the song on my heart all last week!!! Hubby and I are currently in this situation. It is tough, but I also refuse to move until I have God's blessing to do so. I am always checking myself to make sure it is not out of fear why I am not moving, and if the thoughts align with God's word
Summer Learning... Summer Fun!
As summer is right around the corner, what do you have planned for your homeschooling family? Any of these three resonate with you or something else? Last year, we had a vacation booked that was highly anticipated. This year, we're continuing with our summer bible and math work and doing more fun things locally. Hopefully a trip to the beach is in order (about an hour away). We slow down a bit, take time to enjoy the beautiful weather, and garden. But as I always like to say... learning takes place everywhere, all year!

@Shan McAllister loooool this is exactly the same dynamic with me and my husband. Ironically, my hubby is 1 of 6 ... And all the cousins are on his side. Currently 13 (3 more coming in a few months). - that's where cousins week is. I'm 1 of 3, but we're the only one with kids. I'm here for big families

@Shan McAllister congratulations. Sorry you have been so unwell with the pregnancy. I can relate. I hope it continues to get better from here
From Public School Teacher to Homeschool: Why I made the shift
I always knew I’d be a teacher. As a child, I often played “school” with my friends and loved working with children. In college, I got my Master’s in Elementary Education, landed a Kindergarten job, and was living my dream. …until I wasn’t. After a few moves and school changes, I went from a confident, joy-filled teacher to completely burnt out and discouraged by my latest assignment. I came home crying most days and started questioning everything. It had been my dream to be a teacher and now….I wasn’t even sure who I was anymore. Around that same time, my husband began sharing his own school experience—being labeled, misunderstood, and made to feel “less than.” One moment stuck with me: When a specialist realized my husband could read despite their doubts, my husband replied, ✨“I can read… I just don’t like what you make me read.” He wasn’t interested in the mundane and seemingly useless things he was being taught.✨ That hit me hard. When we had our first son, I planned to stay home—but still send him to school. Then one day my husband said: ✨“I really want to give our children a better experience than I had. I want them to love reading and learning. Would you ever consider homeschooling?”✨ I laughed. This thought had truly never crossed my mind. But I agreed to try it for one year. That one year turned into 7 and counting!🎉 Now we have three boys, and homeschooling has completely changed how I see education, learning, and what’s possible for our kids. It’s been an exciting journey to see our boys blossom into confident, curious, life-long learners. And for myself, the joy of teaching has been restored. 🥰 What started as a small “maybe” turned into a calling I never expected. And honestly? I wouldn’t trade it for anything.💜 Now, I want to help other homeschool families on their journey. Whether you're just starting out, or a seasoned pro, let's build this community, together.

I always enjoy hearing people's journey to homeschooling. I recognise it is different for so many people, but one thing I have noticed is, underneath it all, we all want to give our children the best we can. I recognise I am blessed to be able to homeschool, though it also comes with many sacrifices. But like you Lyric, I wouldn't change this journey God has us on for anything (unless He asks me to lol)
