Consciousness
I want to recommend this conversation with Michael Pollan on his new book "Consciousness"—not simply because he came up with the idea for it when he was on mushrooms in his garden researching "How to Change Your Mind," and he found his plants gazing at him—benevolently, he was a good gardener—but because one of the reasons I love this work and medicine is I want to expand the boundaries of my own mind. In this particular moment, people are feeling a lot of anxiety around AI, feeling replaceable. But an argument or antidote is beginning to take shape, which he articulates when he talks about feelings and which we experience with this medicine as something greater and more profound than what can be contained in our physical selves. I think there's a paradigm shift happening, and we are all part of it. https://open.spotify.com/episode/2ADyySBkHSh5zyB7m8Wfpo?si=nFw571T8SyKsLnTldemF-A

I feel like this and some other things I have been reading are beginning to articulate a very reassuring antidote to much of the anxiety around AI and a more expansive view of who we are—which is something we all experience through this type of work.
What if the exhaustion isn't a flaw — but a signal?
What if the exhaustion isn't a flaw — but a signal? Your body is not broken. It is speaking. The exhaustion, the depletion, the feeling of running on empty — what if that is not a character flaw or a lack of discipline? What if it is your nervous system waving a white flag and asking for something different? I want to hear from you today.💗 Where in your body do you feel the exhaustion most? And what do you think it has been trying to tell you?

Thank you, Carma, for opening this space and creating a welcoming environment! I'm excited to participate in a community of soulful women! I also, don't feel exhausted in this moment today, but I get there more often then I'd like in these turbulent times. And maybe more than exhaustion—anxiety, that body strum like a vibrating guitar string—has been a fairly constant companion. It's everywhere, but seems to radiate from my upper chest. I've carried it always, from the time I was young and am just learning to understand it and allow it—invite it in for a "cup of tea" as the Buddha did with fear. If I pay too much attention to the world right now, that can be a trigger. The antidote, I believe, is community (what Carma is building here) and joy. I don't get there as much as I'd like to, but I've made a commitment to seek joy because I've come to believe that in joy we can access better thoughts and show up for people and ourselves in a more grounded, productive, and . . . joyful! way.
