🙋 Your State Needs a Lead — Is It You? (Only 1 Hour a Week)
We've built benefits guides and action guides for all 50 states. Now we need one friendly person per state to help their neighbors use them. You don't need to be an expert. The guides do the heavy lifting — you just bring the heart. ❤️ Here's the whole job: 🌱 YOUR FIRST WEEK ✅ Say yes — comment "I'm in for [your state]" below ✅ Skim your state's two guides (about 20 minutes) ✅ Post a short hello: who you are and why these programs matter to you 📅 EVERY WEEK (30–60 minutes) ✅ Welcome new members from your state ✅ Share one tip from your state's guide ✅ Do the 2-Minute Action — one phone call, script provided ✅ Cheer every "Post Your Win" from your state 🗓️ ONCE A MONTH ✅ Host a Call Day — invite your state to call their senators together ✅ Drop a printed guide at one senior center, library, VFW post, or church ✅ Post what your state accomplished this month ⭐ THE GOLDEN RULES We protect programs, not parties — always nonpartisan. @Ed Weir Thanks, Ed! I got it all figured out. I’m trying to navigate both my retirement & my daughter’s switch from SSI to Adult Disabled Child benefits. The Child in Care keeps popping up, which I keep merging in my mind with IEDS. I’m all good now. Thanks for your help!

@Carolyn Gardner I filed in person on Tuesday and only needed to show my drivers license. I brought my birth certificate just in case, but she said she didn’t need it. If you’re applying for spousal benefits, you’ll need your original certified marriage certificate & if you’re divorced, your original certified divorce decree. Hopefully you already have them, but if you don’t, order them right away from VitalChek (don’t use any other service. VT is the only service authorized in the states that use a 3rd-party service) or your state’s Department of Vital Statistics. It takes 1-2 months to process the order & Social Security only gives you 30 days to provide documentation. If it hasn’t arrived in time, they will extend the deadline, but you’ll need to call them.

Ed…you truly are one of the best people to enter my life. I’ve learned soooo much from you the past 2 years as I’ve prepared for today…the day I filed for my retirement benefits at age 62. Navigating two types of Social Security that would be impacted by my claim was incredibly difficult before I found you on YouTube. My daughter was born blind/disabled & receives SSI, which as you know will change with my claim. Your website & Q&A became my go-to spots for anything I needed to know. I’m really looking forward to being part of the community & sharing what little I know. Thank you for creating a place where we can find support & offer our help. The world is a better place because it’s here. 🥰

@Evelyn Crawford I’m not an expert, but from my understanding you will still retain your SSN. Unless the situation is extreme & your case meets certain criteria, SS does not issue new SSN’s, because the process of untangling yourself from it is so complicated. Keep an eye on your record though. If someone else fraudulently uses your SSN & it continues being a problem, that’s one of the criteria that meets the definition of “extreme.” And no, you do not have to pay back any wages. You aren’t responsible for what another person does when they fraudulently use your SSN.
