VFX folks are pushing back on my last post — and they’re partly right
There's a conversation happening on one of my LinkedIn posts that some of you might actually want to be in. Short version: I posted about employers looking for AI filmmakers — microdramas, UGC, ecommerce, previz, b-roll. A few people in post and VFX pushed back hard. The gist being that AI demand is a myth and the models aren't good enough for real work. And honestly, part of what they're saying is right. Nobody's finishing a feature with diffusion models. The technical complaints about res, gamut, dynamic range, spatial consistency — those are real complaints from people who know their pipeline. Where I disagree is the leap from "it doesn't work in my lane" to "it doesn't work." Anyway. I'm not asking anyone to go defend me. That's not what this is, and please don't pile on — that would make it worse, not better. But if you've got actual working experience here, especially if you come from post or VFX, your voice carries weight in that thread that mine doesn't. Someone who's done the work saying "here's where I use it and here's where I don't" is worth more than anything I can write. Link's below. Jump in if you want to. Totally fine if you'd rather not — no obligation either way. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/alexvachon_aifilmmakersdirectory-generativeai-aivideo-activity-7501735223743827968-W6Di?utm_medium=ios_app&rcm=ACoAAABL6UoB-5StahmOHzZWGDUu3lmCPQPKtYA&utm_source=social_share_send&utm_campaign=copy_link

I'm not on LinkedIn but that sounds like a very interesting discussion. And reminds me of AI convos in my oil painting Skool group. It's not black and white but shades of grey on using AI in, I would imagine, any creative venture.
Quick heads up — we changed our name
So AIFCA used to stand for "AI Filmmakers Career Agents." Now it's "AI Film Career Accelerator." Same letters. Same community. Same me. Just swapped out one word. Here's why. "Agent" sounds like I'm representing you. Like I'm the guy who calls up a studio and gets you the gig. And for a minute, that WAS kind of the plan. But that's not actually what this is. This is a community that helps you build your own career — your own profile, your own reel, your own pipeline of work. I'm not standing between you and the people hiring you. You are. "Agent" said one thing. We do another thing. So the name needed to catch up to reality. "Accelerator" is just more honest. It's a place that helps your career move faster — not a person doing the moving for you. One practical thing: the URL is changing too. Should be live in 2-3 days. If a link breaks for a hot second, that's why — not because anything's wrong. Everything else stays exactly the same. Same group, same me, same goal. Just wanted you to hear it from me first.

Excellent update!
Stop Using Claude Like a Chatbot—Build Your AI Production Team
Most AI filmmakers are still doing everything manually. Research. Prompting. Shot lists. Asset tracking. Revisions. Quality control. Then they wonder why one project takes forever… and why the next project starts from zero again. So here’s the deal. I’m co-creating a new course with Sean Rubin, a professional AI filmmaker who is already using Claude Agents inside his own production workflow. Not theory. Not “here are 50 cool things Claude might do someday.” Sean is going to open up the actual system and show us how to build Claude Agents for AI video production. Agents that can help you: • Research projects and ideas • Create briefs, prompts, scripts, and shot lists • Organize references and production assets • Maintain context across complex projects • Track revisions and catch inconsistencies • Build repeatable workflows you can use again and again • Produce more work without letting the quality fall apart Basically, instead of using Claude like a chatbot… You start building a small team of specialized production assistants. And yes, you still direct the work. You still make the creative decisions. But you stop rebuilding the entire production process every time you open your laptop. The course is still being created, so some of the lessons may evolve as Sean and I test and refine the strongest workflows. That also means there’s a reduced pre-launch price available right now. When the completed course goes live, it will be $97. So if you know you want to multiply your production capacity, improve your exports, and finally understand how Claude Agents can fit into a real AI filmmaking workflow… Reserve your spot before the launch price goes into effect. Join at the pre-launch price in Classrooms.

What is the structure going to be? Like live Zooms or videos or what? I'm still not sure what I will be doing with my AI skills but I'm very interested in knowing more about how agents work and how they can be used. And this would be a fantastic way for me to learn since I have basic knowledge of the process. Just want to make sure I can fit it in my current schedule.

@Alex Vachon Okay! I'm in like Flynn!
To succeed as a well paid AI filmmaker, you need 3 things
Okay, let's be real for a second. There are a lot of "AI filmmakers" out there right now. Very few of them are getting paid well. Here's why. To actually succeed as a well paid AI filmmaker, you need 3 things. Not 10. Not 20. Three. 1. Master storytelling through film language 2. Master output consistency 3. Master how to brand yourself That's it. That's the whole game. Most people obsess over prompts and completely ignore these three pillars. Then they wonder why they're stuck doing free work for their cousin's startup. So here's what I want you to do. I built a module in Classrooms called "Know Where You Stand: The AI Filmmaker Self Audit." Go run it. Takes 10 minutes. It'll score you on all three pillars and tell you exactly where you're weak. No fluff. No ego stroking. Just the truth about where you stand right now. Go check it out here: https://www.skool.com/aifilmmakerscareeragents/classroom Now here's the part most people skip, and it's costing them money. Pillar 3 is branding. And you cannot build a brand nobody can find. If you don't have a profile on the AI Filmmakers Directory yet, that's step one. It's how clients, agencies, and even AI assistants discover you exist. There's a free plan, so there's zero excuse not to get listed today. And if you're serious about getting found first, the Pro plan gets you more visibility and a stronger profile that actually converts. Free is good. Pro is better. But invisible is broke. Go run your audit. Then go claim your profile. See you in the comments below with your scores.

Barnabus Lawson is one of my favorite AI teachers. He is skilled and patient and gives good feedback. I've made progress through both cohorts I joined. HIghly recommend!

@Alex Vachon I should add that students tend to be at various skill levels but the class is always supportive and encouraging and cheering each person's progress and their own particular vision/style/subject.
