Welcome on board
Hi everyone! Some of you already know me, but for those who don’t — I’m Luisa, and I’m thrilled to be part of this community. At Bear With Us, I take care of graphic design and project managing: from layouts and covers to coordinating the different steps that turn an idea into a finished children’s book. I love being in the middle of the creative process, supporting both authors and illustrators. Children’s books are very close to my heart, because they blend two things I deeply love: words that inspire and illustrations that spark imagination. Here on Skool I’ll also be helping with moderation — making sure conversations stay lively, supportive, and fun. So if you ever have a question or just need a little encouragement, feel free to tag me! To get to know each other: what feeling do you most want children to have when they close your book?

@Andy Wheeler thanks Andy. Well I have a children’s book in scribble form but it’s very basic first draft aimed at 6 year olds. Ish. But i definitely need help organizing and formatting!!!!

OOh Thank you @Nicola Lewis that gives me heart and motivation 😃
Hello!
Hi everyone! I’m new here and just wanted to say how much I admire the gift you all have for writing. I’m a children’s author dedicated to create stories that shape the virtues that make us better human beings. Excited to be here, learn from you, and share in the love of storytelling together! Warmly, Pappy Doc

Great to see you writing books with a message Christopher. I too want to write about spiritual healing and kindness but not in a sappy way. Pragmatic approach. I’ve got a zillion ideas but have to learn how to zone in and focus. I have grandchildren who are my muses but I think that the older I get the more like them I am. I’m growing down. Maybe it’s a circular thing?? 🤫. Anyway I’m so glad I’ve joined this group. I definitely want to share and have fun. 🤩
Weekend plans?
Hi gang. Hope all is well. Just checking in to see what you’re up to over the weekend with your writing. I’m not sure if you all know but I recently had a heart attack and a triple bypass operation. I’ve been writing a book about recovery and all the things that they don’t tell you in hospital pre-op. I’ll be adding some things to that over the weekend. It’s been quite cathartic writing about my experience and I’m hoping that it will help others.

Oooh Andy. Ouch. Great that you’re writing about it. My Dad had a heart op and wished he hadn’t. As do I. It went wrong. I hope yours went right. I think there needs to be more books out there that tell us of the reality of being in hospital and suffering. We tend to gloss over things like that as if they’ll never happen. But they do. And to children too. Which is always very sad but if we faced things head on we would be prepared. My knee replacement went badly and I’ve got many stories to tell of being in a French hospital. Mainly about the food!! French culinary experts my arse!!! The only good thing that came out of it was I lost a stone and half and gave up alcohol!! 🙃🤫. But I’ve got some funny memories. Especially now that I’m selling most of my wardrobe on Vinted now as clothes too big!! Always a silver lining! Get better soon 🌹🌹
Start Here – Introduce Yourself!
Hi everyone and welcome! 🎉 I’m so happy to see this space finally open. Let’s break the ice a little: 👉 Tell us your name and where you’re at with your children’s book (idea, draft, editing, illustrated, or even published!). 👉 And share a fun fact about yourself — maybe your favourite childhood book or something quirky about you. Can’t wait to get to know you all and hear about your projects 💜

Wow that’s so serendipitous Luisa. I’ve been working on a children’s book for around a year using my grandchildren as the inspiration who ask questions about why the planet is hurting. I had drawn some basic illustrations but I’m no artist. I put the images through AI and it came up with the right idea but not the right style. Too harsh. I want to write a series of short children’s stories about how to save the planet and humanity from themselves starting with ourselves and how we behave. Age range 3-10 so different styles for younger children to older children. I’ve absolutely no clue how to do this but I’ve got the imagination and the words! I’m a mindfulness teacher for children aged 4-19. I want my work to be playful but with a serious message and practical approach. So. Still at the ideas stage really but looking forward to working with people and not averse to collaboration either. It’s so frustrating to have all these ideas but not knowing how to get them out there!!! Living in France currently but trying to get back to the uk to be closer to my little muses. Karen
