One of the biggest shifts I made in my health journey was changing how I ate in the morning. I was taught that breakfast had to be heavy. Bacon. - Eggs - Hash browns - Pancakes - Waffles - Biscuits But the more I learned about the body, the more I realized that mornings are actually a great time to support the body's natural elimination process. I like to think of the day in 3 different phases: ๐ Detox Mode While we're sleeping, our bodies are hard at work. We're not eating. We're not digesting. Instead, the body can focus on repair, recovery, and cleanup. ๐ฝ Elimination Mode When we wake up, the body begins trying to eliminate what it cleaned up overnight. Ever notice how one of the first things you do in the morning is head to the bathroom? That's your body continuing the process. This is why I personally prefer lighter, water-rich foods during the first part of my day. Things like: ๐ Fruit ๐ฅ Fresh juice ๐ Smoothies ๐ Melons ๐ Citrus fruits These foods contain water, vitamins, minerals, and natural sugars that provide energy while still feeling light. For me, they help me feel energized instead of weighed down. ๐ช Building Mode Later in the day, after giving my body time to hydrate and eliminate, I focus more on foods that help nourish and support the body. Things like: ๐ฅฌ Leafy greens ๐ฅ Carrots ๐ฅ Cucumbers ๐ซ Beets ๐ Sweet potatoes ๐ฅ Nuts & seeds These foods provide many of the nutrients our bodies use every day to stay strong and perform at a high level. My Simple Morning Routine Most mornings look something like this: โ
Water โ
Fresh juice โ
Fruit or a smoothie Then later in the day I'll move into larger meals built around vegetables and whole plant foods. Everyone's body is different, but I've found that keeping my mornings light has been one of the simplest ways to support my energy levels and overall wellness. ๐ I'd love to hear from you: What's your typical breakfast look like right now?
