Why do we need Philosophy?
These are my thoughts on the course "What makes Philosophy important": We need philosophy and I absolutely agree. And It's not taught in school as a general subject, because it probably incentives critical thinking too much. Being able to break down philosophical concepts allows us to break down ANY concept (in my opinion), many famous philosophers were also scientists, mathematicians and artists. Being a philosophers means discussing ideas with others, reflecting on you own worldview, thinking critically of mainstream narrative that the media and school try to convey. I believe that everyone should be a philosopher, yet very few today have the ability to. In ancient Greece, every citizen of Athens HAD TO be literate, informed and intelligent so they are to partake in discussions of judicial matters and town votes. The main message was that we all need to do what we want and for that, we have to first know what we want. And philosophy gives us the chance to immerse fully into that. We do need to be aware of not falling into the nihilistic side, where too much deep thinking sometimes makes you ultra-pessimistic. That's it, thanks for reading

@Thomas Williams we need it to structure our society on agreed values. They are in it of itself a philosophy. For example we live in a society that is heavily focused on materialism and utilitarianism

@Thomas Williams Need and can are two different things, yes we technically CAN live without philosophy, but is it not better if we engage in it? In my opinion the ultimate human intent is too seek truth and connection, in other words: god, and philosophy helps to come to these conclusions.

@Amin T.o. I don't think they're low-iq but rather just too lazy to challenge narrative or authority
Thoughts on reality?
Do any of you ever wonder why anything exists at all? And whatever the reason is, why would said reason make sense? What makes us perceive anything to begin with? Perhaps we never will find out, and maybe it's supposed to be that way.. Without anything to question life would be quite boring.. What do you all think?

The movie Fight Club and what you actually want in life
"THIS IS NOT A POST ABOUT MASCULINITY" There's a scene in the movie where the protagonist is aiming a gun to a random sad person telling him that he is going to die, the protagonist asks What did you study? The person says biology but he doesnt know why, the protagonist asks, What do you really want to study? The person say he wants to be a veterinarian but its too much school, the protagonist asks him, Would you rather be death? then the protagonist steals his ID and tells him that if he isnt in the path to become a veterinarian he will kill him The movie pinpoints the topic of doing what you actually want, like asking How would you feel if your life ended today? or saying "Life is too short to fulfill peoples expectations" I think that the meaning of the movie is that Life is too short, that we are going to die and everything that we do wont matter, so do what you really like or you will die being sad and with regrest the phrase "Do what you actually want" Doest mean go party, buy tons of clothes and watch instagram reels, It means to serve your PURPOSE, Paint if you want to paint, be a poet if you want to be a poet, dress like you want to dress THE MOVIE AND THE BOOK HAS SO MUCH MORE MEANINGS AND STUFF SO GO CHECK IT THE BOOK IS AWESOME TOO!!!! this is my first post and I am still learning english

I'm very careful about watching Hollywood films, even if they at first don't seem like propaganda. I have watched Fight Club, and it does promote a lot of unnecessary violence, but it also delivers some good general messages, like this one, the thing is most people don't even know what they really want to do.
