Starting a new venture - not for the faint of heart.
You are never too old to start your own business. Ever. I started Miss Bliss after a long run in agricultural research left me discouraged… and if I’m being honest, a wee bit disgruntled. In 2015, I quit my full-time job, packed up my life, and moved back to the Peace Country. I went on EI, stating I was returning home to be closer to my elderly parents—which was absolutely true. I moved onto an organic farm with an old farmhouse and began learning homesteading crafts, while also teaching others the skills I already had. I raised animals—lots and lots of birds - chickens, turkeys—and processed all of my own meat. And somewhere in that chapter, I discovered tallow. It came from an elk. The most beautiful, pure white kidney fat I’d ever seen. We called it leaf lard. I asked my father-in-law what they would have used it for “back in the day.” He said, candles and soap. That moment quietly changed my life. I will forever be grateful that I chose that path. Soapmaking became a huge part of my world. Tallow became an even bigger one. We no longer render our own today—industry standards and customer expectations require an extremely high level of selectivity—but that early discovery set everything in motion. I was in my early 40’s when all of this began. No one could have guessed what was coming next. My background in research gave me something invaluable: knowledge of forages, soil health, testing, feed analysis, crop rotations, and applied science. I managed a heifer pasture, ran workshops, and spent years understanding systems—how things work, why they work, and how to do them properly. All of that brought me to a place where I knew enough to build something of my own—effectively, responsibly, and with the scientific backbone that should exist before creating products people put on their bodies. And that’s the whole point. 👉 Take what you know. 👉 Find what you love. 👉 Combine the two in ways that feel exciting, meaningful, and uniquely yours. You will need persistence.
Congratulations to you for getting to where you are! You’ve built an amazing brand, community and business! Never too late! I’ve always been in trucking and dispatching others! I’m almost 62 and learning a brand new to me career! Many hours rereading chapters and writing mock exams until I get it! When I am tempted to get discouraged and give up, I push those negative thoughts aside and reach out to my accountability coach who supports me and sends me encouragement. There’s nothing stopping me other than my own self doubt which is not worth stopping for! I got this!! Now back to studying 🤣
Mindset Monday: The Quiet Week Between Christmas & New Year
There’s something really special about the quiet week between Christmas and New Year’s. The noise drops. The pressure lifts. The calendar softens. It’s not the time for big launches or forcing momentum — it’s the time for rest, reflection, and recalibration. This is the week I let myself slow down without shutting down. I rest my body. I breathe deeper. I spend time with my people. But I also keep a notebook nearby. Because inspiration doesn’t disappear when you rest — it actually gets louder. I jot ideas. I journal. I write messy thoughts without polishing them. I share small, honest posts — not to perform, but to stay connected. To keep the rhythm going. To keep the algorithm warm without burning myself out. Consistency doesn’t have to be loud. Sometimes it looks like showing up gently, truthfully, imperfectly. This in-between week isn’t about pushing. It’s about listening. Rest now. Dream quietly. Write things down. Post if it feels right. Soft momentum is still momentum. And you’re allowed to begin again — rested. 💖
Enjoy your week. In the industry I’m entering it’s known to be the busiest week of the year. Getting it done before the new year. I’m spending this week deep in my studies. Writing exams and getting a new career under my belt. So excited for what 2026 will bring to all of us! The year of the horse! Let’s gallop through. No more slithering like the snake of 2025! No more shedding! The last year of the fire snake was 60 years ago, almost as old as me! Wild independence and trailblazing momentum just like a horse! Happy New Year 2026!!
Mindset & Momentum Monday: Your Week Doesn’t Have to Start Perfectly to Start Powerfully
Here’s your reminder as we head into a new week: You don’t need a perfect Monday to have a productive one. You don’t need a colour-coded plan, a spotless house, or a miracle energy burst. You just need one small action that moves you forward. Try this 3-Minute Momentum Start: 1️⃣ Take a deep breath and say: “I don’t need to do everything. I just need to do one thing.” 2️⃣ Write down your top 1–3 priorities for the week, not 20. (Business, personal, or both.) 3️⃣ Do one tiny starter action today: - Respond to a message - Post one update - Pack one order - Tidy one small spot - Make one decision you’ve been avoiding That’s momentum. And momentum beats perfection every single time. Mantra: I move at my pace, with purpose. 💬 Share below: 1️⃣ My top priority this week is: ________ 2️⃣ My tiny starter action today: ________ Let’s build boldly — one simple step at a time. 💖

1. My top priority this week is to stop practice sourdough loaves and start selling Monday through Saturday. 2. My action starter was to feed my sourdough girls just before bed so they’re at their peak for mixing into loaves by morning.
Community & Connection Friday: Your Check-In
Happy Friday, Bold Builders 💖 Before we roll into the weekend, I want you to pause and look at what you actually DID this week. Not what you “still have to do.” What you already did. Fill this in (copy/paste and answer in the comments): 1️⃣ My win this week was: 2️⃣ Next week I’m focusing on: 3️⃣ I could use support or ideas with: Nothing is “too small” to count. - Posted once on social? That’s a win. - Raised your price a tiny bit? Win. - Cleaned your work table so you can think again? Win. - Said “no” to something chaotic? Huge win. This community is here to help you build boldly, not perfectly. 💪 Drop yours below so we can cheer you on. 💖
