@Snazzie Designz Yes! That platform jump thing is huge! Not that the others you bring up are less valid, but the platform thing is definitely one of the big ones I notice a lot. Each platform comes not only with its own momentum but also its own rules/norms. For some people, it’s the extra energy required to pause the momentum on one platform and jump into the other app. For example, if I’m on here working on clearing my notifications “real quick”, even something as small as jumping into a full-length video may require transitioning to a different mode entirely. And switching to a different platform in order to engage there requires an additional transition. It’s not that the content isn’t worth the extra time, it’s more that suddenly what was simple has become a decision (do I switch activities or keep my current trajectory?) and requires just that much extra energy to make the switch. Plus, if I’m not signed in correctly there and I try to engage, I have to work on that (more energy and transitioning). Which also brings up the fact of rules/norms differing by platform. There are some platforms I just won’t follow someone onto bcs that will require yet another membership and another password and another app, and another thing to learn to use. Thankfully YouTube has a lower entry threshold (for me!) than some other apps do, but when I contemplate asking my readers on FB to follow me onto Substack, I keep running up against the hurdle that new rules and norms and rhythms introduce. 😵‍💫
